Iran announced Monday it will establish a new “restricted zone” near the Strait of Hormuz within the coming days — as the flailing nation desperately tries to expand its control over the critical chokepoint.
The exclusion zone will span from where the US blockade of Iran begins to other areas of the Gulf, Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on Sunday in an interview with state TV.
Rezaei said that any ship that sails into the restricted zone will be placed on a sanctions list. “Any ship that enters this area with the intention of passing through the Strait of Hormuz and is identified will be placed on our sanctions list,” Rezaei said.
Iran will also release maps of a new shipping corridor through the strait, where about one-fifth of the world’s oil passed through during peacetime.
“The maps of a new international corridor which lies in Iranian and Omani waters and in which Iran will have management have been agreed and should be signed in the coming days,” he said.
“We will only commit to the Strait of Hormuz being open when they (the Americans) stop the sabotage, threats and attacks on Iran,” Rezaei added.
The announcement came as the Islamic Republic faces potential economic disaster –with its fuel reserves dwindling to to a paltry two-month supply, following months of punishing US bombing campaigns and a fresh wave of crippling economic sanctions.

We call that “free fire zone”….
World needs to finish off those vermin.
They’re The Black Knight of countries. Bizarre!
US Navy SEALS spent four months demining the Strait of Hormuz in dangerous, nighttime mission
Will be nicknamed the CHOP Zone with photos of George Floyd on big banners.
The dreaded Iranian “Restricted Zone”.
Libtards warned us of this.
“None shall pass”
Dang, working underwater in the dark is not easy.
Dealing with mines at the same time?
Very tough work!
“Tis but a scratch”
“I’ll bite your legs off!”
I can’t help but think Trump’s Department of War has been paddling madly under the water for months. Like a duck.
A duck looks calm on the surface. Underneath, where you can’t see, those feet are churning.
______
Iranian ledership, Mullahs, IRGC, IRGC-QF, Bismaji. They’re all well and truly screwed.
....have been agreed and should be signed in the coming days,” he said.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wonder how solid that “should” is. I read in another story that Oman hadn’t agreed to the arrangement.
Any time Iran says appears anywhere, you can just ignore it... Because they've never ever mean what they say.
Monty Python skit with the Knight , just a flesh wound ,LOL
“Iran announced Monday it will establish a new “restricted zone” near the Strait of Hormuz within the coming days”
“coming days”, huh? ... guess we’ll have to wait to see if this is just pure bluster ... and why delay anyway? ... they gotta update their “restricted zone” maps or something?
btw, what happened to their OLD “restricted zone”? ... did it become unrestricted or something?
and what IS a “restricted zone” anyway? ... is it like one of their “red lines”, only for water? ...
““Any ship that enters this area with the intention of passing through the Strait of Hormuz and is identified will be placed on our sanctions list,” Rezaei said.”
that’s it? ... a ship that “violates” their NEW “restricted zone” gets put on a LIST? ... doesn’t sound like much of a consequence, does it?
No one is so winning at the moment.
The strait is about closed.
In the last 24 hours, only 6 ships went through instead of the normal 60.
Thus, activity down from 100% before the war, to 10% now.
This war needs to be fought like war.
Sadly, it’s not happening.
They’re moving into pathetic territory. 😏
“Sadly, it’s not happening.”
You again. What is France doing? Before you gripe about anyone else.
Last time France did something about it (together with UK and Israel) was to take over the Suez Canal. It was a massive military success, complete victory!
Well guess what… America sided with communist RUSSIA, and forced them to retreat !!
The United States exerted intense diplomatic and economic pressure against the french (with friends) invasion during the Suez Crisis in November and December of 1956, forcing the UK, France, and Israel to withdraw.
Israel invaded the Sinai Peninsula on October 29, 1956, and British and French troops landed to occupy the Suez Canal zone in early November. American Opposition: U.S. President Dwight D.
Eisenhower was furious that his closest allies had launched a secret military operation without consulting Washington. He feared the conflict would destabilize the region and push Arab nations toward the Soviet Union.
(Well Trump secretly launched his attack against Iran, not telling UK and France, and Iran now Iran gets massive help from Russia…)
U.S. Government threatened Britain and France with severe financial penalties, including blocking international monetary relief and withholding oil shipments. President Eisenhower also threatened Israel with economic sanctions and the cutting off of all private and government aid if it refused to withdraw. The joint pressure from the United Nations and Soviet warnings, Britain and France agreed to a ceasefire and withdrew their forces by December 1956; Israel completed its withdrawal by March 1957.
If America back then had let France, UK and Israel keep their winning hand, the middle east would have been a success story today.
America back then dissuaded Europe to ever try to do anything good again in either of the Gulf states. Europe therefore progressively dismantled its offensive military capacities, and America assured it would compensate by assuring the protection of Europe. That’s why you won’t see Europe back in those areas… according to Americas longstanding orders…
But now so suddenly Trump wants to reverse that long standing American position ??
Evidently not. Trump is continuing this American posture. That’s why he secretly launched the war in Iran WITHOUT telling UK of France.
Thus, France and UK will not intervene in Iran, they respect Americas longstanding decision to keep them out of the loop. By the way, Trump has said many times he doesn’t need help from Europe when it comes to Iran.
