Young Americans need to learn communism’s true history
Washington Examiner ^ | 31 Aug, 2026 | Washington Examiner

Socialism is gaining ground, particularly among younger adults. It is sometimes modified with the word “democratic,” as in the name Democratic Socialists of America, but the modification is lipstick on a pig. Socialism and communism spring from the same desire to elevate government over family.

That makes it important for students to understand where the militant ideology has led in practice. A new public school curriculum in Florida offers a model for doing that.

Public school students in Florida will take a course this year that was approved in November 2025 by the state Board of Education: History of Communism Standards.

“With the resurgence of communist ideologies across the United States and throughout the world, it is more important than ever for students to understand the catastrophic failures and human suffering caused by communist regimes,” Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas said.

Winston Churchill famously said that communism “is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy,” an ideology whose sole virtue “is the equal sharing of misery.”

Churchill predicted that communism, for all its pretensions to deliver a more equitable future, would prove ruinous. He was right, although that did not stop a generation of Western leftists and “fellow travelers” from whitewashing communism’s evils and advocating its superiority over capitalism.

It would be hard to overstate the mass suffering perpetrated by radical egalitarian ideology. Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin allegedly said that while “the death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is [but] a statistic.” Statistics offer a grim look at communism’s true cost.

Communism murdered no fewer than 100 million people, according to a reasonable 1997 estimate. That far exceeds the 70 million military personnel and civilians who perished in World War II, the deadliest war in history.

Way to go Governor Desantis. I hope leftist teachers don’t try to sabotage this program.

Went through the public school system in Florida in the 70s.

Back then there was a mandatory class called “Americanism v communism”.

It laid out exactly what communism is and laid out what America stands for.

Even as a 14 year old it was blatantly obvious how evil communism is.

Governor DeSantis has had this in the works for a while now.

Watch who comes out against it and you’ll know who the anti Americans are.

They’ll learn it when they experience standing in breadlines, or when they must attend mandatory struggle and re-education sessions, or their relatives have been executed for being the wrong class, wrong race, wrong background, or when they see others advance because they are connected to powerful people.

Many Americans live in a post-modern, fantastical, atheistic, amoral fantasy world.

They’ll only learn when they experience the basics - cold, humiliation, wet, fear, pain, anger, caused by a political regime.

Stupid only learns through pain, or spends loads of time in jail and learns nothing.

Do they have to state their pronouns in college? I don’t know if they do, but if they did, that would be a struggle session.

It’s all because the education system in this country is ran by commie/socialists. Does this remind you of the USSR? They rewrote history and whitewashed their backgrounds. That’s why our young people are so ignorant.

Oh. Right. How are you going to gather millions of children and teach them about communism? Or spelling. Or math. Or English. 🤔

I read someone who pointed out the push for Marx to finish the writing of The Communist Manifesto was it was becoming obvious that socialism was financially unworkable. Only the seizures justified by the Manifesto could provide suffient money for such total government.

When communism is taught in schools, students will learn:

1. Communism is political violence.

2. Communism is lying.

3. Communism is stealing.

4. Communism is murder.

All should read this, a review of the German economy in the late 30’s.. This is what we are living for the most part.

Pick just one chapter to read, it is an easy read.

Trump is changing the direction but we are still living it.

I really wish students had to read “The Law” by Frederic Bastiat before graduating. First it would teach students about liberty and economics and second it would make libtard heads not just explode but vaporize.

“The Law” by Frédéric Bastiat is an essay written in 1850. Bastiat argues that government’s only legitimate purpose is to protect natural rights—life, liberty, and property. He warns that law becomes perverted when used to plunder citizens rather than defend them. The work examines how governments overstep their bounds, turning legal systems into tools of exploitation. Bastiat critiques socialism, tariffs, and slavery as forms of “legal plunder” that violate individual rights while ... Read more

Asking young tech oriented youths to read is likely you wasting your time.

Try giving them the audio book instead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFtfIhGrfa4

I make this suggestion because I hope to see the effort have some success. You’re not going to find readers, but you’ll probably find willing listeners.

This wonderful book is only 2 hours long and the audio book is completely free in the public domain so it will co$t nobody anything.
