he 2026 midterm election will mark one of the most important inflection points in our history. The results will determine what groups and theory of governance direct our country going forward. The stakes could not be any higher regarding the future of our nation and most of its citizens. Most alarming is nobody is safe if the radical left’s vision of America wins. Today’s Democrat candidates are leading a political movement that is geared to promote socialism and a rise in tyranny in our country resulting in a significant loss of freedom and control over their daily lives for Americans.
The issues dominating today’s politics are identical to the fierce debates pre-dating our Founding. They have continued through our history regarding the proper role of government in democracy. The Founders’ preference was for a limited government role in society. The Founders desired a government that recognizes the roles and rights of sovereign individuals while acknowledging these rights are derived from a higher power. Included in this vision is a system of government that also promotes the pursuit of equality between people and the rule of law.
Life will be grim for most if the increasingly radical Democratic Party is allowed to win. In the future, we will confront a country with rising levels of illegal immigration via open borders, higher taxes, runaway inflation, rising energy costs, and a decreased level of national and personal safety. We will experience the creation of an ever-increasing powerful surveillance state in conjunction with Big Tech leading to the death of personal privacy.
The left in power will continue to divide us by gender, race, religion, and political affiliation status with identity politics the dominant ideology of the day. The Judicial system will be increasingly subverted, along with the rule of law

If the Dims take over the House and Senate then we will be in big trouble. The DSA is taking over the democrat party.
Trump has spent years trying to ensure honest elections. Trying to let the American people have a real say in future governments. But little progress has been made. Trump’s own party is in the way, blocking everything.
If the DSA gets power, I think they will be able to outlaw the GOP, round up and imprison troublesome political opponents, and lock in permanent tyranny by the Democrat Party. No one and nothing will stand in their way.
Government schools have rendered the American public incapable of critical thinking. Dark days ahead.

Trump would still have the veto pen. But, yeah. It’s bad enough now with the do-nothing GOP in charge. If the D’s take either chamber, Trump’s initiatives will all grind to a halt.

Let's start by capping contributions to 1000 per individual per election cycle regardless of who they are donating to - candidate, party, PAC or any other political group. Soros dumping hundreds of millions each cycle is wrong.
Vivek Ramaswamy (unfortunately the Republican nominee for Ohio governor) finally said something everyone else is missing: opportunities for young people are very bleak.
Underemployment at roughly 25%, unaffordable housing, people having to work multiple part time jobs, etc.
If young people have nothing to lose and think they have something to gain they will vote for DSA candidates.
He’s not wrong.
I’ve been saying for a long time that older Conservatives need to have empathy for younger people. But I (mostly) don’t see empathy. It’s all “You spend too much on coffee” and “You’re just lazy” and “When I was your age ...”
This is just NOT a good time to be young. Obama and Biden screwed this place up with expensive healthcare, high inflation, tons of illegal immigration, and other bad “fundamental transformations”.
But if Conservatives are incapable have having empathy for the young, then the young are likely to go full socialist. “Hey, maybe the DSA will care about me ...”
When I graduated high school many decades ago, there were a ton of opportunities for young people. The railroad was always hiring. Plus there were three large steel mills in the area. They were hiring, too.
A young person could get a good entry-level job, then start building a middle class lifestyle.
That’s all gone now. So yes, Ramaswamy has a point.
Trump tried to address this by promising to bring industry back to America. I’m sure not seeing that in my next of the woods. And I’m not blaming Trump. Without the active help of Congress, his plan is at a dead end.
The GOP platform is ‘fear the dims’ and elect us so we can take vacations.

The requirements for jobs these days are absolutely insane and no training is provided.
I’ve been looking for a job for 8 months and nothing. 38 years of scientific research experience and 50 years total of work experience.
But even that’s not enough experience.
Entry level jobs require 3-5 years of experience.
There was even a kid on Twitter/X who graduated with a chemical engineering degree who couldn’t find a job anywhere so he went back to apply for a job at Walmart where he worked during high school.
They wouldn’t hire him for lack of experience even though he worked for 2.5 years at that very store just four years earlier.
They don’t want to hire older people.
They want AI to takeover as much of the entry level positions as possible.
Anyone seeking an entry level job better already have 5 years experience.
And they’ve already hollowed out Middle Management — “Those guys add nothing to the bottomline.”
Where is the corporate ladder today? No entry level jobs, no middle management jobs, no jobs for people with multiple decades of experience. How does that work?
For now, senior level specialists with an MBA and a lot of specialized technical knowledge can probably get a job (if they aren’t too old). But those people will eventually retire (or die).
Who replaces them? Who is currently rising up that corporate ladder (that no longer exists)? Who is being mentored to become a future leader? Where does the next generation gain that specialized technical knowledge? This doesn’t feel like a self-sustaining economy to me.

I had mostly bad luck getting a decent part-time job after I retired.
I’ve read that companies sometimes hesitate to hire older people because of age discrimination laws. If a younger person doesn’t work out, he’s fired. End of story.
But an older person who doesn’t work out can sue for age discrimination. So why take the chance of hiring him in the first place?

I’m hoping the midterms will be like the Election of 1864; in September, Lincoln initially thought he would lose due to the massive losses in, and unpopularity of the Civil War; Sherman taking Georgia put an end to that. Perhaps a change of government and the end to hostilities with Iran would accomplish the same.
In my 30+ year career, almost every job I worked was secured through either a direct hire or a personal referral. Basically, I had the job lined up before the employer even had the position posted.
I just went through this with a close friend. I told him to give up on the stupid online application process and make a couple of personal contacts in the place where he wanted to work. He did that, and was asked to submit an application the following week for a position that hadn't even been posted yet. Starts at the new job right after Labor Day.
My 25-year old son fits this to a T.
I am about to turn 60 and have only been unemployed for one month since 1986. I have worked side hustles plus a full-time job for over 25 years but due to a combination of bad choices, a divorce, and not wanting to move out of my home town, I am grinding and living paycheck to paycheck with less than 6 figures put away that is offset by a mortgage and other debt. His mother (my ex) is also in a similar situation.
My son supports the DSA and frames it as sympathy for me and his mother. “You guys have slaved away your entire lives at jobs you can’t stand in a capitalistic system where almost all of the benefits go to the 1%, there’s a better way, you deserve a better system.”
One of my best friends is a medical doctor and couldn’t find full time employment in our area.
You read that correctly. A MD with years of experience, no disciplinary actions against him and still nobody would hire him.
He eventually found a VA position in another city and commutes back every weekend to be with his wife.
This whole job/opportunity situation has the potential to blow up politically leaving Republicans and traditional Democrats on the sidelines.
On the one hand, I think your son is correct. You do deserve a better system. We all do. But the DSA and socialism is not that better system.
But I can no longer look around at our current incarnation of Big Government and Big Business where no one cares about the employees, and no one cares about the customers, and the only thing that ever matters is for the executives to get that big quarterly bonus because they “made their numbers” and satisfied the shareholders. A lot of people (young and old) are looking at that whole system and thinking, “There’s nothing in that for me.”
The Supreme Court has allowed unrestricted donations.
