What Trump wanted was a point of origin labelling for manufactured products, so that other countries could not bypass their own trade deals and use Canada's very favourable standings to get their prouducts into the States at a discount and have Canadians make money.
The fact that Carney, Ford, and the Quebec Pm, all objected to this tells me that it is highly probable that they were doing this very thing already. Import China Steel and melt it down and recast it and label it Canadian.
IMO, Trump should give them a single warning that he will release all the documents of what the US knows what these idiot criminals were doing and let marbles fly.
I would also launch an investigation on the Carnival Bankers activities to see if they've been somehting that is criminal and can be proven.

Commodities are fungible. If Canada is making steel, which they are, it can export the entire output to the US, and then use Chinese steel for their domestic needs.
This insinuation is incredibly stupid. Why would we have to lie about the origin of steel when the US’s largest importer of mineral fuels and energy products in the whole world is Canada. Other heavily imported products from Canada include
Mineral Fuels and Energy: Crude oil, natural gas, refined petroleum, and electricity.
Vehicles and Auto Parts: Passenger cars, trucks, engines, and transmissions.
Machinery and Equipment: Industrial and construction machinery, computers, and mechanical tools.
Plastics and Chemicals: Plastic polymers, resins, and organic or inorganic chemicals.
Metals and Minerals: Aluminum, iron, steel, and precious metals.Forest and Paper Products: Lumber, wood pulp, and paperboard.
And agricultural Goods.
China does not produce or export a large amount of petroleum products to the United State. Why would we lie about buying China gas when the U.S. actually exports energy products—such as petroleum gas and normal butane that they don’t ship us? We are on a far better diplomatic status with Canada’s trading than with China. We’re stuck with China. We choose to trade with Canada as it is more profitable.

Trump wouldn’t care if Canada imported steel and used it domestically. He just doesn’t want China steel or other countries products coming into the US bypassing their own agreements because he was giving Canada favourable nation status.
Because that’s what liberals do to make money for themselves. Buy China steel at a discount, recast it and resell it at a profit.

In addition, the billions being made by China and Canada out of this scam flow to politically connected companies and individuals in China and Canada. That is part of how the Left in Canada is financed and retained in power.
Trump has a point when it comes to steel imports, because Canada is way down on the list of producers but is a huge exporter of steel to the US. It’s a work around they have with China.
On the other hand.
Aluminum production which is very valuable to the US manufacturing sector does come from Canadian producers, because they have strong productive capacity with that metal.

You have it backwards. Canada did not want to label products shipped from Canada to the US with point of origin labelling.
The US is a net importer of petroleum.
In 2025, the US imported about 6.2 million barrels/day of crude and exported 4 million barrels for a net import of 2.2 million barrels/day, of which Canada supplied 65%.
The current strategy of the Canadian government, is to target states that they think will hurt Republicans the most with import tariffs. They’ll take effect in September.

Michigan
Nebraska
Ohio
Texas
Wisconsin
The EU did the same thing with politically targeted tariffs in 2003 & 2004 to try and get Kerry elected over W.
