Soccer fans booed the U.S. national anthem on the weekend as Canadians reacted to news that trade talks between the two countries had broken down again.
The Canadian Press reported jeers echoing through Vancouver's B.C. Place ahead of a Major League Soccer game between the Whitecaps and FC Dallas on Saturday, following booing at Stade Saputo, where CF Montréal hosted the L.A. Galaxy earlier in the day.
This came hours after Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended talks with the United States and recalled his negotiators, saying the U.S. made unreasonable demands at the last minute after previously agreeing to a tentative framework.
The U.S. followed through on its threat to impose 50 per cent tariffs on a wide swath of Canadian goods, and Canada promised to match the U.S. tariffs dollar for dollar by Sept. 8, a move that was largely backed by premiers across the country.
Many Canadians who spoke with CBC News over the weekend seemed to echo the sentiments from those inside the stadiums.

Canadians are weasels.
Trump has made us the enemy of nearly every ally we’ve had for the past several decades. Strangely, I am okay with that.
Tariffs are governed by the Customs Tariff Act, which sets a general rate of 35 per cent for goods entering Canada. (Canada charges tariffs, yeah...)
Oh, how adult of them.🙄
Just to illustrate the difference between how Canadians and Americans are dealing with this situation.
The vast majority of Americans have no idea a trade war is happening between the two countries, Canada is simply not important enough for Americans to care about, while this is the top story by far in Canada.
Anybody who “elects” a Carney Barker” as “ leader” is highly suspect.
Does Canada impose tariffs on US goods?
I believe Canadians have an inferiority complex when it comes to America. Unless they are taking your tourist dollars, they will take every opportunity to be disparaging toward us. In this, they are more like Europeans than most Americans.
