One of my favorites, not to be missed when it’s on. The stagecoach charging across the salt flats is always exciting.

I watched for the first time a month ago and enjoyed it immensely.
John Carradine? His son got roped into doing a lot of bad movies.
I remember watching this for the first time a few years back when TCM played it. Before the showing they had a guy come on and hail it as such a great epic western I figured I was in for a real treat. Well, I kept waiting for something cool to happen and it never did. The movie is mundane and boring, I didn’t like it at all. It may have been a real good watch in the 30’s, but IMO not so much in the 2220’s

One of my favorites, but TBH in the 60s, I went to a cinema in Bangkok and saw the Slim Pickens, Frank Sinatra, whoever else was in it... version and I thought that was pretty good too.

Many peaks and valleys in John Wayne’s career. Stagecoach ended a long streak of mediocre oaters. Next peak was Red River; next The Quiet Man; next the Rooster Cogburn sagas. His last movie was the perfect capstone of his career.
Hollyweird has strange consequences.
Yakima Canutt invented two new stunts for the stagecoach chase scene, and performed both of them himself. And he played two parts in the same scene.
He was the Indian who jumped onto the stage coach’s lead horse, then got shot off (by the Duke) and dragged beneath briefly before letting go while the horses and stage ran past him. That also was the first original stunt.
After, he told director John Ford he’d better have got it in the one take because he was never doing that stunt again.
The second original stunt was when the Duke jumped from the coach onto the rig and tightrope walked his way to the lead horses. Only that was Canutt made up like the Duke.

I have been wanting to post about my last visit to my bank, Wells Fargo, and i guess this thread is the best one I have found.
One reason I chose Wells Fargo, decades ago, was because of their pictures of the Old West Stagecoach hanging on their walls when I visited. I even got my checks with the Stagecoach image.
I went into the bank 2 weeks ago, and they had changed the decor and had taken away all pics of that wonderful Stagecoach scene. As I sat down with my bank advisor, I asked about the change. She just said yes, they did away with those pics, but she showed me she still had a little square the she sets her cup/coffee cup on that has the image. She did note that she is not supposed to display it, but that her cup covered it up.
I said Why?? It was such a great symbol of the Old American West. She said yes, it was. And I said, Well, I guess that’s why, and I was disappointed in this decision.
I miss the ole Stagecoach, and John Wayne movies.
