We qualified with the M-14 in Army basic training in 1969, great 7.62 rifle!

He explained that they worked closely with their federal partners and walked them “through every step in the conversion process” to show how they will make the M14s “permanently and irreversibly semi-automatic.”

When the surplus M14s finally go on sale, O’Keefe said they will cost around $2,000 apiece, and buyers should be able to purchase up to two rifles at a time.

I’d buy one if I weren’t so old.
$2K seems a little steep, though.

Don’t you have to be a member of some CMP affiliated organization to purchase?

The Springfield M1A MSRP is around $1800 for a brand new one with a warantee. I suppose if I was a vet that had served with one, or possibly as a potential investment counting on appreciation over time, I might want some original iron, but if I’m buying it as a shooter, I’m going with the newer build.

Sigh. Long gone are the days when you could get a 1911 for $15 through the NRA. Springfield A303s, $15. M1 Carbines, $20.

Yup, I remember $65 for a rack-grade M1 Garand. Why didn’t I buy a dozen?

” I’m going with the newer build.”

ABSOLUTELY.

Many of those service rifles will be total crap by now.

I remember getting an M-1 carbine for $30.00 It was beat up like it went through three wars but it worked.

M-14 for $2K? No. It’s kind of a wall trophy but you want to hump that thing for old times sake? Sure.

“WTH is CMP?”

I wondered too.

From the article:

“The Civilian Marksmanship Program, a federally chartered non-profit created to promote firearm training, announced that it received special authorization to sell more than 100,000 surplus M14 rifles.”

I bought a Garand from the DCM in the 80’s for $165. I’ll stick with that. I could take the $2k I could’ve dumped on a M14 and buy a sweet AR.

Looks interesting, but I’d need another gun safe...
Any rumors out there about an increase in SS? /s

I bet if I changed my name to a Somalian name, I could get a bunch of money from the state of MD to be able to purchase one...
