After a hacker exfiltrated the data of 633,000 Maricopa County, Arizona, voter records in 2020, zero prosecutors at any level of government would prosecute despite urging from the FBI.
Documents released Thursday morning by the White House Government Transparency Task Force detail the massive data breach, an investigation by the FBI, a suspect who admitted to the crime, and a years-long attempt by the FBI to get someone to prosecute, only to close the case due to a lack of prosecutor interest.
“The suspect, perhaps to the chagrin of his attorney, admitted to all of the conduct involved, including that he noticed the vulnerability for quite some time. He considered himself a hobbyist hacker, that in the fall and spring he began looking for ways to exploit the site,” an administration official said on a Wednesday call with reporters. “He ultimately believes that over the course of a period of time, he extracted 1 million to 2 million voter registration records, and then he stored them in four gigabytes on his hard drive.”
About 930 records of the 633,000 included sensitive, non-public voter information such as domestic violence victimization. Although no ballots were accessed or changed and no registrations were changed, an administration official says the data breach displays a major vulnerability in the voting system and 2020 election that Democrats and the corporate press have persistently maintained was the most secure in history.
The first denial to prosecute the crime came from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona on June 12, 2021, about six months into the Biden administration. The Arizona attorney general, Maricopa County district attorney, and the Pinal County district attorney all also declined to prosecute the hacker. According to the FBI summary, the suspect said he did not share the data and “said he was 100% accountable for his actions and was deeply regretful. [Name redacted] apologized and commented that he has to deal with the consequences of his actions.”
According to the official, others ignored evidence of the data breach, including former Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Chris Krebs, who was briefed on the issue with a document that places the breach in the “highest concern” where it was “repeatedly mentioned,” but Krebs never spoke about it.
The hacker used a script to extract data through the webpage a voter would use to fill out his own data, finding zero security on the front end, enabling him to access the location where the data was stored. The hacker apparently acted alone, and the FBI expended resources looking into bank records and communications to see if he was working with any domestic or foreign actors, and determined that he was not.
By 2023, after numerous failed attempts by the FBI to find someone to prosecute the hacker, the case was closed. According to the administration official, the White House has requested information about the prosecutors who declined to pursue the case.

Hmmm, Maricopa and Pinal, like who’d a guessed—two of the most corrupt counties in AZ.
Subpoena Katie Hobbs as she well knows who these people are as she most likely directed them to follow her orders as she was the Secretary of State in 2020 and in charge of elections.
Make that all text, email, and phone records for these individuals.
Any normal instinct would be to prosecute. And do a deep dive on the communications for Krebs. That "most secure election in history" comment was delivered, IIRC, in close proximity to the election, before he could have known. He was planning on his next gig, and he offered up that pre-emptive statement as a favor to the Biden Campaign. Other than being famously false, it was a hook for the media to hang yet another premise: "Trump falsely claimed..... when cybersecurity experts say it was the most secure election in history."
Take the time, while you have the authority, to get to the bottom of this. Impanel grand juries for purely investigative purposes, if the actions are out of range for statutes of limitations. Name names, and nail down the communications chains surrounding the decisions not to prosecute. Get the 60-foot flat screen out of mothballs from the J6 Committee hearings and splatter the text messages of these individuals out there for all to see.
You know, not to defend anyone on the ground in this, but the fact is there was probably plenty of pressure from the Administration to keep this stuff quiet, regardless of what was going on, to preserve the, “most secure election in history,” mantra.
The fact is, claims that no votes were altered, etc. (in *THIS* incident) are probably true. Democrats just stuffed the ballot boxes with illegitimate votes.
These people were elected or placed into position BECAUSE they would allow the non-secure system. It’s a feature, not a bug. And my bet is that these people are owned by Cartel del Sol.
I wonder if Gary Berntsen and Martin Rodil’s Venezuelan whistleblowers have any kind of list of all the US officials that are on the payroll of Cartel del Sol - or can give access to the people who do have those lists. Another guy (can’t remember his name) who, like Berntsen, was doing asset recovery for banks (and so was following the money laundering trails of the cartels) said 60% of AZ judges and officials were owned by the cartels.
People were stunned when that judge down there was found harboring an illegal (who may have also committed other crimes), but it sounds to me like that is actually not that uncommon. What is uncommon is that the judge was ever caught and forced out of office.
IIRC the judge was actually harboring a Tren de Aragua member.
Berntsen says Cartel del Sol is/was the mafia arm of the Venezuelan government/military. It controlled all the other cartels. I don’t know what they’ve done with that judge but I think they should waterboard him until he coughs up the truth so they can go after the whole ring.
Name the four prosecutors, damn it!
Prosecutors: “Crap! 600,000 records leaked. We have the perpetrator cold! Even admitted it! But if we prosecute, he demonstrates how easy it is to hack the system. And we like the system just as it is because the powers that be can so easily steal elections. So, we decline to prosecute.”
