A taxpayer-funded Southern California nonprofit that provides domestic violence shelters and homelessness services paid its longtime CEO more than $1.6 million over two years, including hundreds of thousands of dollars for decades of unused vacation time, according to multiple media reports.
Carol Adelkoff, CEO of the Los Angeles-based 1736 Family Crisis Center, received $907,923 in total compensation in 2023 and another $742,181 in 2024, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Her base salary has remained around $405,000 in recent years, she said, while roughly $824,000 in vacation time was paid out over 2023 and 2024.
The 1736 Family Crisis Center brings in about $15 million in annual revenue and operates crisis hotlines, domestic violence shelters and programs for people experiencing homelessness. It operates 16 facilities across Los Angeles and Orange counties and employs about 170 people.
Government funding accounts for the vast majority of its revenue. According to its latest tax filing, 94% came from taxpayer dollars. Since 2021, the organization has received at least $25 million in grants from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, which distributes city, county and federal homelessness funding.
Adelkoff has also overseen the Southern California organization while maintaining her primary residence in Hawaii for at least 11 years...

She also did not answer questions about how often she travels to Southern California for work or who pays for those trips.”
There should be no government funded nonprofits or NGOs. They’re just money laundering rackets, and whatever problem they supposedly fix they only make worse because that’s how they stay and grow their “business”.
That is EXACTLY why they are labelled “NON PROFIT”!!
The only person she was keeping from becoming homeless was herself.
It was all a massive graft project from day zero.

I am completely against all nonprofit status, not even for Churches. People will still donate to their favorite charities. No one should get Tax preferences, whether in their policies or write offs or money from the taxpayers except for actual government functions.

In California not many things get done unless a bribe is involved.
All through the years inefficient government programs have led people to joke “They may as well stand on the street corners and give every poor person thousands of dollars in cash.”*
Think of how much $1.6 Million would mean to actual disadvantaged people such as a mother who left her abusive husband and wants to protect her two small children but is totally broke. Or a disabled old person who can’t work and is now becoming a homeless person begging for money.
But that is all leading to a surge in demand for socialist/communist takeovers. The greed by some is leading to punishment for all of us.
* During President Gerald Ford’s term, his program to match people to jobs that would earn them $10,000 a year (pretty good back then) meant his bureaucracy and distribution expenses and paperwork ended up costing the government approximately $50,000 for each $10,000 a year job. Definitely would have been better to throw cash into the air.
Can anyone afford to live in California except government and NGO employees?
