Titus was a beloved emperor but he only reigned a little over two years (June 79 to Sept. 81). Other emperors were initially popular but became unpopular later, so we can’t say if Titus would have remained popular if he had enjoyed a long reign.

Over the last few years there has been a lot of apologism for dictatorial forms of government.

Monarchism, Emperors, etc.

They’re still just tin pot dictators at the end of the day, even if they “did a relatively good job” and killed less people than other dictators that came before or after them.

We’re Americans - apologies for tyranny should not be as seductive as they’ve become. We’re free people. Dictatorships are beneath us.
