President Trump issued an order Thursday to crack down on “birth tourism” after he was defeated at the Supreme Court earlier this summer on the birthright citizenship issue.
Trump said the executive order would stop wealthy people from “buying their way” into citizenship with pregnant women traveling to the US birth an American baby.
“They’ve taken birthright citizenship and they’ve made a joke out of it,” he said during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office.
The order bars citizenship for children born to mothers who enter the United States for the sole purpose of having a child on American soil.
“Birth tourism is by definition a fraud on the American system, on the American taxpayer,” Stephen Miller, who is Trump’s top immigration adviser, said at the ceremony.
Miller has been the point person on this order, which also outlaws citizenship for children born to foreign diplomatic staff working in the US on behalf of another country and to children born to parents who are classified as alien enemies.
It will also bar citizenship for those born in US territories – such as Puerto Rico – but only if Congress passes a law to make that so. Legislation has been introduced but is not expected to pass.
It’s unclear how the order will be enforced on pregnant women and how the government will determine which pregnant women are coming just as tourists and those coming with the intention of giving birth on American soil.
Staff secretary Will Scharf charged that “criminal rings are setting up a system whereby tens, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of people can come to this country in an organized fashion and give birth here purely for the sake of obtaining birthright citizenship.”

Imagine if Congress worked. A law would already be done .
Congress is too busy to do anything that might make the average Americans life slightly better
Congressional reps must be getting bribes or are blackmailed to vote the wrong way for America.
Wow.
The GOP is actually trying to fight back.
Of course, a federal judge will declare the Executive Order unconstitutional - before the weekend.
A Federal Judge can only rule within his own district.
Will never hold up in court. The only effective strategy is refusing visas and denying entry at POE for pregnant female foreign nationals.
Count down to leftist courts getting involved.

_____
Then why sign an EO where people can buy their way into citizenship with the Trump Gold Card? It was literally a fast track to citizenship if you paid enough.
Does not seem like the wealthy buying their way into a citizenship is a problem in all circumstances.
Some federal judge will rule that unconstitutional discrimination against pregnant women.
How will it be enforced? A rich woman arrives from some 3rd World cesspool (e.g., China) 6/7/8 months pregnant. It’s not detected at immigration.
I told everyone the court would screw that up. We should have waited till we got rid of some of the fools and liars.
It will work until some stupid RATlike judge files an injunction to keep him from doing this.
We can keep them out due to health issues….pregnancy is a health issue.
A useless EO soon to be override by some liberal POS judge.
They aren’t us citizens so they dont have full constitutional rights and they are also foreigners subject to our entry rules.
These are people who demand we be more like the rest of the world. We are not in this instance, but are trying to be, and they thwart it.
Yep.
Yup.
Sad but true.
