American Red Cross declares national blood crisis as type O supply drops to dangerous levels

The American Red Cross has declared a "blood crisis" across the nation.

The organization released a warning about the second-ever blood supply crisis this week after blood donations fell to a four-year summer low.

This decline worsens an emergency shortage that "threatens the availability of lifesaving blood for patients across the country," the organization wrote in a press release.

I thought that gays were going to "save the day" by filling in the gap in blood donations. Guess that never happened.

Either:
- Not even the relaxed requirements issued by the FDA in 2023 could qualify most gays to give blood.
- The new requirements repulsed or disqualified previously qualified straight, married donors.

Funny how meddling with something that has worked fine for decades results in unintended negative consequences.

Local chapters are paying huge dollars to local Leaders.

It ain’t yer Grandma’s Red Cross.

Not one more dime to that gang of grifting posers.

Yes, the American Red Cross is about as woke as it gets. I may have donated to them a time or two at college blood drive, but have donated to our local blood bank since. No more RC.

Microsoft Copilot (similar to ChatGPT) flatly refused to disaggregate the most-common blood types by race. And Wikipedia is silent on the topic.

But I'm assuming that non-Whites donate more blood, per capita, than Whites.

Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a POC donating blood.

Plasma for pay, possibly, but never whole blood.

One of the problems I see is the proliferation of plasma donor sites in the last 10 years. That "bleeds," no pun intended, potential donors from the pool of potential whole blood donors.

A lot of new plasma centers are paying attractive compensation for donating plasma. And that disqualified from donating whole blood at traditional blood banks.

Probably a multiple factor reason. Demographics perhaps low Church attendance, community involvement. Maybe its that there are fewer young people.

Perhaps they can drain some of the millions of illegals they've been assisting across the border.
Replacements, right?

What is considered “attractive”? To a tweaker meth head or normal people?

The hospital gets $900 a pint. I get a Cookie. I understand the ethics involved and perverse incentives, but.

Exactly. If you've never been to a plasma center, it is a completely different environment from a whole blood center. The plasma centers are like leper colonies. You'd better believe that they attract everyone with a substance addiction problem. Pay at one I last checked was $750 total for the first month of a series of draws. Paid donors can donate twice in a week.

The compensation incentive makes all the difference. If whole blood donation centers paid for blood, they would quickly devolve into the plasma center-level ghettos. I don't think anyone would want that elevated risk in the blood supply.

In my life I gave a couple of gallons of blood. I stopped when I decided it was time they pay me for it. My blood is the only thing in an operating room that is sourced free. Yet only the “sourced” part is free. It certainly isn’t free to the patient or their insurance. So they should pay something for the actual ingredient they are supplying.

According to information I found type O+ blood is very common. O Positive records indicate about 35% to 38% of the population has this making it the most frequent blood type. O Negative on the other hand is about 7% to 9% of the population making it less common and vital as a universal red blood cell donor for emergencies. Intereating they would be running out of a blood type and it being such an emeregency with numbers like this unless it is negative.

You can call a lot of the aids infected blood in the US attached to Bill Clinton and his illegal blood sales to Canada that has leaked back into the US in the 80’s as a major part of the illness problem and the disqualifying of sources today. Aids deaths tripled between 1980 and 1994 when the blood was reintroduced back into the US that had been sold using Arkansas prison blood as a sales force.

I doubt that. Whole blood has a very short shelf life, even if frozen. Any effect of an incident under Clinton would have aged out very quickly.

I’ve given about 40 pints of blood to the Red Cross over the years.

But, I quit when the Red Cross started assisting illegal aliens across the Southern border, and giving them maps to assist their infiltration into the United States.

If the Red Cross had stayed out of the WOKE political arena, they wouldn’t have a blood shortage today.

You reap what you sow.
