Now let’s hear a one sentence review of The Odyssey.
It’s a mistake to not look a gift horse in the mouth.
Three questions:
Have you ever read the Odyssey?
Do you have a problem with agitprop?
Do you value both your time and your money?
If the answer to all three if the above is yes, I recommend giving this movie a swerve and waiting to see what Musk has in mind.
Cliffs Notes for Movies?
Many sycophants and industry shills will come out of the woodwork to tell who refuse to see this film that they have to see it in order to judge its value. This isn’t true. Someone can usually tell from the trailer and publicity around a motion picture what it will be about and what it will be like. That’s what those things are for.
If from what they’ve seen and heard leading up to the debut they decide the film isn’t worth viewing for them then they are entitled to their opinion and it doesn’t make them wrong or ignorant.
Rotton Tomatoes is giving the movies high marks.
The issue I have with race swapping and gender swapping in films, is they are attacking morality, slowly at first, and then full on assault.
Recall back in the 80’s (maybe the late 70’s as well) all popular films included a harmless, mostly funny homosexual, usually with flamboyant dress and presentation. Now look where we are, we actually have “judges” affirming the ridiculous idea that some mentally ill dude can be a woman. I use judges because the law is very specific on language.
Anyone who has been sentient for the past 6-7 years knows the reason race swapping is being lectured to the masses is because white culture, or even being white is evil and must be replaced. Black actors have been normal in hit movies for the past 50+ years, but now we have to reimagine great literature to involve some ghetto looking black actor who has no business playing to role they are assigned. For this reason, I will never spend a dime for any movie that does this.
The issue I have with race-swapping and gender-swapping in films is that I see them as part of a broader cultural shift. Individually, these casting decisions may seem insignificant, but over time they can influence how people think about history, identity, and established norms.
Think back to the 1970s and 1980s. Many popular films included a stereotypical gay character, often portrayed as flamboyant and comic relief. At the time, those characters were generally presented as harmless entertainment. Looking at today’s cultural landscape, I believe that what began as relatively minor changes in media eventually contributed to much larger shifts in public attitudes about sex and gender. Whether one agrees with those changes or not, it’s difficult to deny that entertainment can shape culture.
I also believe that race-swapping established fictional characters is often driven by ideology rather than storytelling. Diverse casts have been a normal part of successful films for decades, and there are countless original stories featuring outstanding Black actors and actresses. My objection isn’t to diversity itself; it’s to changing well-established characters for political or social messaging instead of creating compelling new ones.

Virtually nothing is known about Homer’s biography. Yet IMHO he was a veteran who saw extensive combat and somehow survived. The Illiad describes in detail the horrors of such combat. Comrades are mutilated and killed often in bizarre sensless ways. He no doubt suffered physical and psychic wounds. Experieced primodial fear, personal failures and bewilderment. The Odyssey was his jouney home”. Such a journey is never a direct flight from Da Nang to San Francisco. The journey is complex and meandering. The veteran must cope with his torments and memories as best as he could. When and if he arrives home , he may find “home” itself has been transformed far beyond what he left.
This is a universal soldier’s story.The plight and trials of French soldiers returning to their villigages after 20-30 years of captivity in Siberia, Civil War vererans on both sides trying to return , millions of American, British, German, Russian, Italian and other soldiers trying to resume civilian life have been well documented. It is no different than what Homer or whoever wrote these poems documented three thousand years ago.
It would be very difficult for someone who never served or saw combat to make a meaningful ,insightful movie of the Odyssey.Given the story, AI and modern special effects no doubt they can make an entertaining movie of sorts. Perhaps Oliver Stone or maybe John Ford in their prime could have done it real justice.

I have NOT seen the movie. My reasons:
I prefer historically accurate depictions of history. Helen of Troy was Greek and not black.
Sinon was a Greek warrior. Having him played by a 96lb transvestite who needs to take two steps for the armor to move doesn’t fit the historical narrative.
I won’t pay a dime to support any woke narrative.
The true data in the JSON file of the site says otherwise. They are bending the numbers.
The Trojan Horse story seems silly to me, but it might be a metaphor for something like an attack by cavalry or horsedrawn chariots.
