Stiffed: Obama Center fails to pay contractor, who’s forced to shut down operation

Barack Obama’s presidential library opened a few weeks ago with a star-studded celebration, and ongoing criticisms about its Star Wars-prison appearance and failure to pay contractors who worked on the monolith project.

Now one subcontractor has shut down operations because the project manager has refused to pay for work that was done on the project.

A report at Fox News outlines how Mike Owen, owner of Adamson Plumbing Contractors, confirmed his company was on the verge of collapse because of payments that were due, but never were made.

“Laying off close to 30 people is something that no owner in our industry wants to do,” Owen told the publication. “It’s a hard thing to do, especially when you know you can finish them and the company can still make money. But we were put in a pretty bad corner.”

He confirmed the company had to abandon a number of other projects because of the Obama center financial fallout.

Adamson did work at the center under the name Marsh-Adamson and has filed a $1.72 million mechanic’s lien against the property, putting the dispute over payments into the courts.

I guess Obama wasn't counting on USAID being shut down when they started construction.

Anyone who agrees to any terms other than cash up front with a politician is at severe risk of making an involuntary contribution.

If this were President Trump, the MSM would be running this story in a loop all over the news 24/7/365.

I would love to know what justification, the project manager of the Obama center, has for not paying this guy.

Assuming the work was done satisfactorily, and assuming the Obama center has the money to pay, payment should happen.

Certainly, the Obama center would like to set a good example and pay for services rendered. You figure it’s got to be an embarrassment to the obama center, if they’re going to get sued.

I don’t know the details of mechanic liens and lawsuits, but I’m guessing that all the details involved would be heard in open court.

And then it might be quite embarrassing if the obama center has no real justification for withholding payment.

Of course, all this could be avoided if the Obama center would just pay their bills.

When hillary was running for president, her campaign would hire caterers all over the country at her events.

Then her campaign would regularly stiff them.

No matter how ruthless Obama and Clinton are, the American people will always defer to their ruthlessness. I hope the biggest threat to the republic is not the American people, but it could be.

The amount of money stolen, squandered, used to pay off bribes and political favors is probably staggering.

No wonder there’s nothing left to pay contractors.

Kamala stiffed her people too.
The Islamocommie party will stiff everyone……no food, no housing, no medical care. After that, they will just release a another bioweapon and cull the herd.
Once they’re in power, the politburo will crap on everyone and Islamists will take over.
Dumb brainwashed stooges have no idea what they’re voting for when they elect people like Mamdani.
Hochul, Schumer, Warren, etc all endorsed the anti-Americans.

There has to be more to the story. Subs file monthly requests for progress payments. If this guy sat on almost $2 million in claims, he put himself out of business.

Might be a long time before that building is sold...

Yep. The contractors could have stopped work until they got paid. But they didn’t.

Barky wanted all black contractors and he stiffed them all. He apparently feels that it is an honor to serve him and that should be payment enough.

Progress payments are paid @ 90% of the invoice so that holdback begins to accumulate over a project. Also, a lot of the most expensive work gets done in the last couple of months of a project so that increases the totals owed. As to how I know this works IRL, I can give you the key search terms for a specific example that the company I worked for experienced: Keating five, Phoenician Resort, Savings and Loan debacle, Resolution Trust Corporation.

If this were President Trump

The building would be completed under budget, ahead of time, with superior materials and not looking like a Nazi flack tower.
