It has been my concern that North Korea or Pakistan would sell Iran some nukes.
Every nuclear bomb would leave a fingerprint that would trace the material to a specific lab. It’s not something that can be hidden. It would take just a few minutes to identify the source of the nuclear material used in any “event.”
North Korea is not going to sell anyone a nuke. That would be suicidal. Nor would the Paks; their’s are for India.
How many conventional wars did these two countries avoid as a result of gaining nukes? How many people didn’t die? Probably millions. The same would happen with Iran gaining nukes. Israel would have to figure out a way to live peacefully in the region without levelling city blocks full of innocents to get one bad guy.
The value of nukes lies in mutually assured destruction, not in actually using them
If a bomb's made in North Korea and used by Iran - BOTH countries attacked. It' that simple.
Rogue nukes became available when the USSR collapsed. Whilst working for local power company we used Soviet bomb material as fuel; and, we did a study for NSA on how easy it would be to steal bomb-quality material from Soviet power plants.
That material is out there. But, like the article says, its origine is traceable.
Pakistan is a known nuclear proliferator and have close ties to Iran, besides being their next door neighbor.
