‘Deadliest Catch’ Shocker: Mike Rowe Claims He’s Owed $2 Million for Work on Show

Dirty Jobs host Mike Rowe has filed a lawsuit against Discovery, claiming that the network owes him over $2 million for narration work he did on Deadliest Catch.

According to People, Rowe and his production company, Lab Rat, filed the lawsuit against Discovery Talent Services on Wednesday, July 1. The suit claims that the company breached its contract by refusing to honor Rowe’s “pay-or-play” agreement for his work on Deadliest Catch and its spinoff series.

Rowe, who has narrated the reality series since 2005, allegedly signed an agreement in 2020 that would pay him $40,000 per episode. His lawyers also claim that Rowe is to be compensated for the episodes he does not narrate. The filing notes that Rowe was not used as a narrator for five episodes of Season 21.

Additionally, the lawsuit claims that episodes that aired internationally are “materially different” from the episodes aired in the United States and should be considered “originally produced episodes.” Therefore, the suit states that Rowe’s “pay-or-play” agreement should also apply to those episodes.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Rowe's an all-around good guy, conservative and he's big on encouraging young men & women to consider employment in the blue-collar trades.

Discovery channel needs to pay him what they agreed on.

Good luck in your lawsuit, Mike.
When it comes to the Entertainment Industry, even a well known talent such as Mike Rowe often needs to fight and aggressively pursue what is owed to them.

Maybe he’s acting as his own manager at this point in his career.
Best case scenario, a ‘nice’ settlement will be offered to Mike Rowe. “A million here, a million there, soon you’re talking about real money!”

I’ve enjoyed watching Deadliest Catch over the years, Rowe has a great narrator’s voice.

For years, I’ve indulged in a fantasy that my older daughter, who’s a very accomplished woman, would meet Mike Rowe on an airplane and they would become a couple. Sigh. Instead, she usually ends up with losers, whom she ends up carrying around, then finally has to dump as dead weight.

Sounds like the entitled attitude he rails against. Nobody owes you anything Rowe, not even the discovery channel. Stop whining and pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

This stuff sounds like it should have been covered in the original contract.

Someone has a crap lawyer. These complaints seem “obvious.”

I would think his pay would legally be a matter between him and his production company.

The cable company would be acquiring and paying his production company for contractually specified broadcast rights:

X episodes for n*X broadcasts over our network.

I’m of the Dino Flintstones age so this might not be accurate as of now:

Nobody owes you anything Rowe, not even the discovery channel.

If there was an agreement in place, as the article states, and it outlined what Mike is claiming, why shouldn’t he be compensated?

The problem is often that an agreement/contract is set, and then someone moves on and the next person in charge feels like it doesn’t apply anymore, or they play loose and fast with it in the hope they don’t get challenged on it.

Nowadays it seems like far too many are sheep and just go along with whatever they are dealt. I imagine that in the entertainment industry, some might be afraid to fight because it could mean a loss of work down the road. Mike doesn’t come across as someone willing to just roll over.

The problem is, it will likely cost him the value of the contract in legal fees.

So Mr. Rowe should just lie down and take it when his employer reneges on their contract?

He’s OWED WAGES.

That’s all the re-runs and final seasons

They killed all the shows and there will be no more roadkill or other shows produced

They closed everything down and sold off everything
