LEESBURG, Fla. - An elderly Florida man was arrested for allegedly street racing in Lake County, deputies said.
When confronted with the accusation, William Bosworth, 85, responded that he was just "having a little ride in my favorite car."
Now, Bosworth faces two charges for driving in a vehicle race and dangerous excessive speeding.
A Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted two vehicles appearing to be street racing on U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 33 in Leesburg around 11:40 p.m., June 12. A radar showed a red corvette traveling at 125 miles per hour and a gray sports car traveling at 110 miles per hour – both in a 45 miles per hour zone.
After activating his emergency lights, the deputy pulled over Bosworth – the driver of the gray sports car – an arrest affidavit said.
The interaction between the deputy and the elderly driver was captured on body camera footage.
When the deputy addressed Bosworth's alleged street racing, Bosworth responded, "No, that guy, he swerved at me." Bosworth continued to explain he was driving 110 mph "only because he swerved at me. I wanted to get away from him before we caused a problem."
Bosworth went on to deny he was street racing with the other driver, saying he was "out having a little ride in my favorite car."
Bosworth complied with the deputy's commands to get out of the car, and he was placed in handcuffs. He was arrested for excessive speeding and street racing.

I found myself doing over 100 on the way to work today because the freeways were empty due to some fake holiday
Which one of you guys?
FLORIDA MAN!...................
What was his car?
Life goal.
Florida Man is only young once, but he can be immature forever.
Florida Man grows older, but he refuses to grow up.
Corvette
Back in my young days, Leesburg was a quiet place where Methodists would go on retreat to get closer to Jesus. Now I am in TX, Leesburg is filled with expanded population, and Methodists are more concerned with alphabets than getting closer to Jesus. (OK, most Methodists, the splitoffs still hold on to the faith.)
85 years old? Kinda old to be acting like a teen.
My bad. The Corvette was a 90 year old
Okay 85 x 110 divided by 45 ...
“A man’s got to know his limitations.”
At one point of my life I owned an Audi A4.
We had a family emergency on Christmas day and I needed to go from Cypress Creek Road to Oakland Park Blvd on I-95. I got on the highway and just floored it. There wasn’t a car in sight, it was broad daylight, and at the time staying under the speed limit was not a consideration.
As I approached the off ramp I glanced at the speedometer. The needle was dropping towards 120. Dropping.
I actually had the shakes that wouldn’t stop when I got to my destination.
At least he didn’t wreck.
I have added this to my bucket list. If I make it to 85, I want to get arrested for driving 110 MPG.
Video at the link is hilarious.
Old geezer is in a Nissan 370Z convertible. He’s got a big cigar in his mouth as he’s explaining to the deputy why he’s doing 110 in a 45.
He sounds drunk to me, but that’s probably because he’s a old geezer with a cigar in his mouth.
Hilarious.
No. He was racing a Corvette. He was in a Nissan 370Z.
In all fairness to the 85 year old , the guy DID swerve at him. And we all know that means ITS ON ! Video said the driver of the Vette was 57 and got pulled over somewhere done the line. Judge should give this a 85 year old a a little verbal lashing but hey lets face it the road could handle the speed and it was late and clear .....these cars can obtain that speed pretty quickly also...I think its funny.
Just tapping his inner teenager. I know the feeling. 😉
