Texas Tech swaps its soul for a QB. It learned by watching Maine Dems | Opinion

College sports is degrading so fast, it’s hard for any particular indignity to stand out. When a prominent coach sanctions anything short of murder, though, that breaks through.
Texas Tech University is marshaling its clout and wealth to protect the playing eligibility of transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who, a couple of stops ago, gambled on his own sport and team. That was once the unforgivable sin for an athlete, but Sorsby found a Tarrant County judge willing to order the NCAA to allow him to play in the upcoming season.
What’s the big deal, Tech coach Joey McGuire wants to know?
“As a society, we’ve been OK with other things that happen and allowing players to play, and this has been the one thing uniting people that we’re against,” he told a group of Tech boosters June 10 in Houston. “It’s crazy – it’s not murder, it’s not beating somebody.”
You’ll break your neck trying to see how low McGuire just reset the bar. But he’s just following the example set in politics.
Maine Democrats have decided that Graham Platner, someone who decided to permanently mark his body with a Nazi symbol and who faces several credible and recent accusations of abusing women, is the state’s best choice to be a U.S. senator. As McGuire might say, hey, he didn’t kill anybody.
These stories seem unrelated. But they represent the elevation of glory, victory, fortune and personal or political agendas over integrity and standards.

He is right on three of the four.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone looked into the FanDuel accounts of The San Antonio Spurs players lately?
And now a related story, on the high school football level.
I was teaching in an inner-city high school at the time. A student was caught in the school with a loaded gun.
Was the kid arrested? Nope.
Were the police even called? Negatory.
The kid was the team’s starting quarterback.
I guess our team’s won/loss record was more important than student and staff safety.

Amazing that University apparently is not affected by their own player actions from two years ago.

Why is Ken Paxton on the wrong side of this issue?
No....Sorsby played at Cincinnati last season then signed an NIL deal with Texas Tech for the upcoming campaign. TT had nothing to do with Sorsby’s prior gambling issues...
They also declared him ineligible until this week when the court granted Sorsby a stay...now the other Big 12 schools are saying “we don’t like the courts ruling!!! we’ll boycott games he plays in!!!”
I don’t remember any B12 schools saying they would boycott any women’s athletic events that included dudes in dresses!!
Virginia elected a democrat who want his opponent and his entire family dead. Don’t count him out yet.
As a TTU man, “We dint do nuffin. Let him play”. The heckling will be coo.
Sorsby found an attorney. A damn good one, apparently. Sorsby certainly did not “find a judge”. Absurd. The original District Court judge recused himself as he was and is a huge Texas Tech fan with 50-yard line seats at Jones AT&T Stadium so he recused himself. The District Judge assigned had no TTU ties whatsoever. He was a graduate of UTA and University of Houston. He is the one who made the injunction allowing Sorsby to play. TTU had nothing to do with the hearing whatsoever. Nothing!!
The people ragging against Tech are morons. They declared him ineligible. The court determined otherwise. How can anyone find fault with Tech??
This op-ed is ill informed and stupid. Tech is playing the cards they have been dealt. Tech is following the rules 100%. Such BS.
Did Brendan Sorsby use any AT&T services while gambling?
I sense a conspiracy and RICO charges in their future.

He can be on the team but do they have to allow him to play?
I don’t know if he used AT&T while gambling. Doesn’t matter. He didn’t gamble at Texas Tech. He gambled at Cincinnati and Indiana. So it doesn’t matter to me. Cincinatti, in particular, is at fault if anyone is.
Why is Ken Paxton on the wrong side of this issue?
He has been supportive of Sorsby’s case.
