Sorry, the data is against your observations. That was a very cursory search confirming my observations. OTR trucking doesn’t keep a person in one side of a state, or in one state. It makes sense that an entire industry got rid of all the obstacles that kept it from growing in the past 60 years.

Meanwhile, MLB rosters are littered with Latin American players that don’t speak English because American kids don’t want to play. Particularly black kids.

The “participation” data is the key. That is money flowing a different direction.

The black athletes are drawn into basketball and football to be sure. Not so much soccer. MLB has DEFINITELY thrown away the future by chasing short term dollars with high priced tickets and cable/satellite contracts, so yes, America's pastime is in danger of becoming more like golf, rabid fanatics who form a niche. It is still bigger in this country than soccer among non-immigrants and English speakers.

Spending time in Maricopa County, AZ, which SHOULD be as dominated by soccer as I assume Los Angeles is, is NOT being biased by a small section of a state. A majority of the people in the whole state live in Maricopa County. I have lived in three locations within the county, all in different sections.

The TV stations that have the highest ratings for soccer coverage are Spanish only, with TelevisaUnivision leading the pack, just as New York's Univision Channel 41 was back in the 1970s. Things have changed little on that front.
