(Council Bluffs) -- At least one fatality accident occurred in KMAland over the Memorial Day weekend.
The Iowa State Patrol says 60-year-old Donald D. Marks of Missouri Valley was killed in a two-vehicle accident on northbound Interstate 29 near 25th Street in Council Bluffs late Monday afternoon. Authorities say Marks' 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was struck by a 2014 Volvo semi driven by 26-year-old Nilufar Makhmudova of Maineville, Ohio. The patrol says Marks' vehicle was stationary for unknown reasons in the traveled portion of the right lane at the time of the accident.
Marks was pronounced dead at the scene. Makhmudova was not injured. A passenger in Makhmudova's vehicle was taken by Council Bluffs Rescue to CHI Mercy Hospital with minor injuries.

Name reminded me of the Makhmudova Brothers, Wilbur and Orville.
Nilufar Makhmudova could have been illegal, but hey.
If you are going to breakdown in the right lane on the highway - expect to get hit.
I wondered why a simple vehicle wreck was news until I got to “Nilufar Makhmudova” and it became clear.
It doesn’t mention this in the article, but Nilufar Makhmudova is an Uzbek woman and a Muslim.

Sure. After all, why would anyone notice that a vehicle is stopped in your lane?
I guess if driver's licenses were issued by an IQ threshold, the roads would be empty.
Whaddya mean by that? Nilufar Makhmudova is just another guy from Ohio. Fine old Ohio family, the Makmudovas. Well, except for the Chillicothe Makumdovas, count your change after you deal with them.
That’s a fair note and I agree and should have pointed that out. Where this occurred, there is a severe left curve that transitions out of Council Bluffs Missouri River dike system to a flood plain. This stretch of interstate was closed for quite a while during the floods.
Nilufar Makhmudova of Maineville, Ohio is a software developer,
but does not specify her country of origin, here on a H1B visa?
"Imagine that," he said sarcastically.
Weird aliens? We got 'em. Due to containers out of Chicago-area intermodal hubs and normal long-haul truck traffic on the busy multilanes (I-80, I-35, I-29 and the newest four-lane bits of US 20 and US 30), Iowa truck stops and convenience stores catering to semis have increasingly become like Mos Eisley docking bays & cantinas.

Especially when you are around a curve!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Perhaps it wasn’t a vehicle breakdown... perhaps the driver thought he was having a stroke or a heart attack but it was delayed long enough that he could at least get the brakes on and get it into park....
To me, the important thing is it probably did contribute to the accident. It’s like drinking & driving, even if it wasn’t your fault, chances are law enforcement aren’t going to see it that way.
