The Democrats’ Luciferian Beauty Play
American Thinker ^ | 27 May, 2026 | Selwyn Duke

Take a look at why Zohran Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won their elections, and then look at Texas Senate candidate James Talarico.

undit Bill O’Reilly recently said he was “surprised” that ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo lost to Zohran Mamdani in the 2025 New York City mayoral race.

“I thought,” he told Cuomo during a May 14 discussion, “you were going to wax them [your competitors].”

Do you know when I realized Mamdani would win?

The very first time I saw him on TV.

No, it wasn’t that Mamdani was promising to rob Peter blind to pay Paul and then send both home to rent-frozen apartments on a free bus. It was that I understand the Luciferian Beauty Principle.

Now, you can take the following as metaphor if you’re not a theist. In Christian theology, Lucifer chose pride over God, rebelled and became the purest manifestation of evil: Satan. But he also was something else: As Lucifer, whose name means 'light bringer,' he was known as the most beautiful of angels.

There is an all-important lesson there. It’s not just that evil doesn’t appear comic-book style, with a pitchfork and horns; it masquerades as something beautiful and impressive.

The malevolent know how easily humans are seduced by what pleases the eye and ear. We see this, for example, whenever a man is deceived by a comely gold-digger.

As for Mamdani, the power- and national grave-digger, he’s a good-looking young guy with an easy smile, charisma on command and the most silvery of tongues, eloquent and articulate to the hilt. Note here the studies showing that it doesn’t matter what you say; if you say it well, you will sway people. It’s a testimonial to the power of style over substance.

It’s a testimonial to the power of style over substance.

Especially for leftists.

It didn’t help that Coomo helped kill thousands of elderly during Covid. Of course, had Madmani been Governor during Covid he would’ve let them die as well. New Yorkers sure know how to pick ‘em.

Excellent description of how Barack Obama slithered into the White House.

Never underestimate the gullibility of people searching for a new mommy and the easy way out.

Remember the lyrics to “Share The Land” by The Guess Who:

Maybe I’ll be there to shake your hand
(Shake your hand)
Maybe I’ll be there to share the land
(Share the land)
That they’ll be givin’ away
When we’re all living together,
We’re talkin’ ‘bout together, now

For a second there, I thought they were describing Obama...

And especially if it comes packaged as a “deprived” minority.

Which leads to the question did Trump win over Hillary and Kamala or did they lose because they weren’t sufficiently attractive on a physical basis? I would also add their voices were also somewhat repellant.

Damn. I did not know that. I thought...who else have I heard sincerely referred to as the "Light Bringer"?

It should have been Pundit. When they make the first letter in the article very large, sometimes it pastes correctly and sometimes it does not. I must have forgotten to go back and check, because it did not paste properly and I did not fix it.

The late Rush Limbaugh would say that politics “is just showbiz for the ugly.” Well, the Democrats generally, and their far-left fringe puppeteer crew in particular, may be applying a formula: Put an uber-attractive, ultra-articulate candidate who delivers his lines splendidly in ugly-people showbiz and “Voilà!” He perhaps can’t lose.

My gosh...what an utterly, spot on, relevant, and...completely depressing article.

There are times when something is true, and is explained so well that it "rings of truth"...and this is one of them.

When I read this, I had no idea:

"...Lest you think I exaggerate, question: Do you know how Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) entered politics?

She was chosen by “progressive” PAC the Justice Democrats, from about 10,000 applicants, through what was, essentially, an audition-like process.

Yes, really...."

There is something rather frightening about this. (Not to mention the fact that AOC has only been around in Congress since 2018...it seems far, Far longer than that.)

I have always viewed the modern Democrat party as evil...not just "evil", but...Evil. Not kidding. I did not always view them that way, I used to view them, a long time ago, as Americans with a different point of view. That isn't the case with the current Democrat party. I do not (and have not for many years) view them as "Fellow American Citizens". I view them as hostile agents who view this Nation, the Constitution, and the American culture as something to be "fundamentally changed" and destroyed.

So, when I see this rank, Machiavellian approach to power by the Left as foundationally repulsive, and in their own manipulative and deceitful way, I could visualize them discussing it baldly as follows:

"Let's try this: we cannot win on ideas since Americans don't desire things like higher taxes, more intrusive government, and less freedom, so let's just bypass all that by having this attractive, loquacious person run for office. They cannot construct a cogent thought of their own, but they don't need to. They just need to sound like they can, and be classically handsome or beautiful in appearance in order to appeal to the shallow people who we need to cast votes for one of our candidates."

There is this direct and unabashed appeal to the shallowness (that is, to a degree, part of human nature in all people) by the Left that I find wholly repugnant.

“Excellent description of how Barack Obama slithered into the White House.”

The first time I saw Obama when he was running for president, he was 30 points behind Mrs. Clinton. I told my wife right then that he will beat her. I knew Mrs. Clinton was a horrible candidate, and Obama had the right toolset to win the Dem primaries.

My then 70 year old mother saw him on TV. She is not a consumer of political literature, though she votes the right way. She said, knowing he was bad news, that he would win because he was handsome.

I always think of the refrain of “Only a Fool Would Say That” by Steely Dan:

I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that
