The son of the billionaire founder of fashion giant Mango has been arrested in Barcelona after his father died falling off a mountain nearly two years ago.

Tycoon Isak Andic, 71, was hiking with his son Jonathan, 45, near the Catalan city when he plunged around 500ft down a cliff to his death in late 2024.

Having opened and then closed an investigation in to the fatal fall, police confirmed the death was being investigated as a possible homicide in October.

Jonathan Andic has always protested his innocence and insisted his father died by accident.

But this morning he was facing formal questioning, with Catalan daily La Vanguardia claiming he had been arrested on suspicion of homicide.

A spokesman for the regional Mossos d'Esquadra police said this morning: 'Everything is under a secrecy order and at the moment we can't say anything.'

Shortly after his arrest, Jonathan's family issued a statement which said: 'Jonathan Andic is currently testifying as part of the proceedings regarding the accident of December 14, 2024.

'At this time we cannot add much more because the case is under judicial secrecy. The collaboration has been and will continue to be maximum within the framework of these proceedings.'

Jonathan later paid one million euros in bail following his arrest.

He was ordered to surrender his passport, appear weekly before the court, and was banned from leaving the country, the court said in a statement, adding that the case was being 'investigated as a charge of homicide'.

Turkish immigrant Mr Andic and his son were visiting the Collbato Caves in the heart of the magical Monserrat mountain near the Catalan capital when the Mango owner died.

Golden goose.

The money just wasn’t coming fast enough for his satisfaction.

There have been so many “true crime” cases involving vacations to cliff-side resorts where someone - usually a spouse - “accidentally” falls over the cliff. If my wife ever books a vacation like this, I ain’t going.

Forbes had estimated Mr Andic’s net worth shortly before his death at $4.5 billion, making him Catalonia’s richest man and one of Spain’s wealthiest people.

***** The story goes that this son learned his father was going to change his will. Then 3 days later son pushes dad off the cliff. The moral is don’t go out alone with someone you are removing (or whatever. changing trusts?) from your will.

Maybe there were Skidmarks from after where his father fell off.

Without video evidence or an email/paper trail, it’ll be hard to prove this. He may have talked to someone about his desire to kill his father for money, too. Or, it may have just been an accident.

High cliffs or Putin’s windows? The end result is still the same. Though the real pros prefer a boating accident/drowning in a 3rd world nation.

Though with todays AI, there might be better ways for impossible_to_attribute deaths.

Maybe if he proclaimed instead of protesting his innocence things wouldn’t be so bad.

Right? I watch various tv crime shows all the time. There’s a few that focus on vacation murders. 99% of the murders are for the life insurance payout. Life insurance is a death sentence.

My son only knows we have a trust and will...NOTHING about what it says...course, we are not rich. But what is with telling family what will/trust says?

How would you prove it? There would be no evidence at all.

Must be different laws, rules, whatever in different countries.

You can’t be arrested in the US over, “suspicion of a crime”.

Have to be charged with the crime and then arrested.

This poor guy was worth 4.5 billion and age 71 he prolly had 15 or more years to live. His billions personally did him no good when he had a murderous greedy son. So you and husband are above ground while the billionaire is not.
