Almost 300 illegal migrants with commercial driver’s licenses were stopped and prosecuted in Indiana over the last three months, according to a top aide to the state’s Gov. Mike Braun.
Tony Ferraro, an aide to the governor who also serves on the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, told the board on Thursday that the state has discovered at least 283 undocumented drivers operating trucks at its weigh stations over a 90-day stretch.
“That’s over three a day that we pulled out of trucks,” he said, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“The bottom line is it was illegal. It was against the law. We prosecuted and took over the enforcement action,” he added.
Ferraro did not specify what law the drivers broke, but said that many of the drivers held CDLs issued by states like California and New York, which don’t require commercial license applicants to be citizens and can legally license drivers regardless of citizenship status.
In February, New York’s leaders announced it will no longer give commercial driver’s licenses to non-citizens following an order from the Trump administration tightening restrictions.
But the legality surrounding Indiana’s enforcement is murky.
Federal regulations do require CDL holders to be authorized to work in the US, however, a valid CDL issued by a state that didn’t require citizenship at the time may still permit a driver to legally operate a commercial vehicle, potentially opening up the state to challenges, according to legal experts.
Braun said he remains adamantly committed to traffic safety, which he said includes cracking down on illegal immigrant drivers operating commercial vehicles on Indiana roads.

Who knows how many innocent lives were saved.
if they had a license, how did they know they were illegals?
YES! This needs to be done nationwide. If they are found to be illegals, detain them immediately and deport them. Get ILLEGAL ALIEN truck drivers off of our roads.
Each and every state employee who issued these Commercial Drivers Licenses to unqualified drivers should THEMSELVES be prosecuted and thrown in prison.
These irresponsible state employees of CA, NY and other states doing this have put hundreds of thousands of innocent people’s lives at risk of death or serious injury.
Such trucks, recklessly operated, have killed entire families on our nation’s highways.
These blue state kooks are relentless in trying to seize personal firearms from law-abiding citizens.
THESE SAME STATE GOVERNMENT LUNATICS ARE PUTTING DANGEROUS DRIVERS ON AMERICA’S HIGHWAYS TO MURDER AND MAIM INNOCENTS WITH GIGANTIC SEMI-TRUCKS WEIGHING 80,000 to 100,000 pounds, speeding down our highways.
The potential death and destruction from a single, gigantic truck driven recklessly makes potential shootings by law-abiding gun owners look microscopic by comparison.
A giant truck in the hands of an unqualified driver is a murderous accident waiting to happen.
In both NY and CA, if the driver has no papers, they sometimes put “no name given” where you would normally find a name. I suspect that’s a start. Also, if they could barely understand English, or couldn’t pass a road signs test, that’s also a clue.
Get these drivers off our roads. Driving IS a privilege!
I wonder if they are going to the blue states. In the past 2 months I have seen trucks driving in the restricted left lane and even on the Parkway - NO TRUCKS signs at every entrance.
Exactly! Somebody gave them credentials and ran them through the system. That’s falsification, deception and taxpayer theft. Those people need to be prosecuted as well.
Hey, illegals, stay out of the Hoosier state!
I spend some time in life driving OTR, believe me, I’m with ya!! It was an entertainment opportunity when ever I heard a foreign accent on the CB Radio!! 25 years ago I was a worser bigot than I am now!! Lol...
Spent**
Your tag line...
Another entertaining memory!! When ever I’d drive south and hear those strong southrn/hillbilly accents I’d throw out a joke...
“Hey Drivers... Whats a southern gent and a pair of Panties have in common!?? All it takes is a Yank to bring em down!!” Lmao... some of them boys got fighting mad!!
Keep it going. There’s no “too much of a good thing” to have.
Did you expect they would take your joke kindly?
For the record, I’ve turned my damn Yankee husband into a Southern gentleman, well, for the most part. He even likes boiled peanuts now!
Lol...
Bttt!!
Why is no-one going after the insurance companies...
Driving is not a privilege anymore than walking... That never made sense. States like to push that but it’s BS.
Massachusetts had the first driver license in 1903..liberal shxthole way back then to get $$. Driving and cars like anything the government can get hold of is a revenue source. They couldn’t come up with a way to tax walking.
I think you need to set your sights higher, like higher towards politicians.

So you’re good with any age person being behind the steering wheel, and it’s just fine with you for repeat DUI offenders driving? It’s ok for people who can’t tell what a road sign means to be on the road?
That’s what I mean about it being a privilege. Just because someone wants to drive, doesn’t mean they have a right to. It’s earned, and it can be taken away. That’s what makes it a privilege, and also a responsibility.

Where the F’ in my post did I ever say any of that? You made shxt up to justify your position.
I have a right to own a gun, it’s not a privilege and I can lose that right if I do bad things with that gun.
I have a right to own a car and drive that car. It’s not a privilege. I do bad things with that car I can lose that right, it’s that f’n simple.
