At least five officers were struck by a driver during a “teen takeover” event early Sunday in Chicago’s West Side, only the latest in the viral trend hitting American streets.
Elsewhere, 19 people were shot and wounded on Memorial Day in the Windy City.
Hundreds of teenagers gathered at around 3:20 a.m. along Chicago’s South Loomis Street, shutting the street down as officers responded to disperse the chaos.
As officers tried to end the takeover, an 18-year-old driver hit five cops before driving over the curb and crashing into a CPD squad car, a pole, and a fence, local ABC 7 reported.
The teen driver, who was not publicly named, was not injured and taken into custody, with charges pending. Police also found a gun inside the teen’s car.
The officers who were hit by the car were all transported to local hospitals and are in good condition, police officials said.
Along with the street takeover on South Loomis Street, Chicago police reported another incident just 30 minutes away on West Roosevelt Road where a 19-year-old was shot.
Police did not say if the shooting was related to the large gathering where the five officers were hit.

In a sane world this would not be tolerated. I feel like an anachronism these days.

Near where I am these little bastards have shut down the bay bridge headed into SF on multiple occasions. Im to the point where i am ok with lethal force. We need to put a stop to this BS YESTERDAY.

Memorial Day begins in just under five hours CST.
We haven’t even started summer yet and it is already out of hand. Cops are going to have to be allowed to break heads if they want this to stop. Judges are going to have to sentence these teens to long prison times if they don’t want blood on their hands.
Allowing such criminal mayhem is a policy decision.

Well they gave them so many ‘inches’ now they’re taking ‘miles’.
How hard is law and order for certain people to understand?
The word “teen” needs to be retired. When used for age, “teen” goes from 13 to 19. There is a huge difference in a 13-year old compared to a 19-year old.
One is a child, the other is an adult.
The media loves the word because it allows them to avoid mentioning one other important characteristic.
It allows them to include 18 and 19 year old gang-bangers as minors who are “victims of gun violence”.
