Of course, John Fogerty was not talking about the 2026 Democrats back then but the message may apply. In other words, maybe the Democrats need to check their extreme impulses or face skeptical voters in November. Let's check out what Thomas Edsall warned about in the New York Times:
Despite the collapse of support for President Trump -- whose unfavorable ratings have grown to 59 percent from 43 percent a week after inauguration -- voters continue to hold Democrats in greater disfavor than Republicans.
As the story goes, look in the mirror and you will see the problem.

Totally agree. The problem, as I see it, is that there are LOTS of insane communists in the cities. Enough to push putrid commie politicians into office. Look no further than the VA AG elected after saying he wanted to kill his opposition’s children.
I miss the good old days when cheating on your wife, (Gary Hart), or plagiarism, (Joe Biden), would disqualify the candidate with voters. That all seems so quaint now.

I have been seeing discussion that the “other side” is struggling with a split between Leftists and Liberals.
Leftists are actual communists. They see class warfare. They see an economic struggle. They want to overturn the system.
Liberals are do-gooders who like to feel smug and morally superior. They are ashamed of nothing and offended by everything. They care about Trans stuff. They care about Ukraine, Palestine, Venezuela, etc. They care about recycling. They care about a lot of stuff which is just fun to complain about.
Now, a fair number of ordinary Americans know that wages have been flat for a long time, and that inflation has made many essential parts of life extremely expensive. This is the “affordability” problem. There is at least some possibility that some of these ordinary Americans could be attracted to genuine Leftist ideas — let’s overturn the system! Class warfare! Economic struggle! The Leftists see this possibility and would like to take advantage of it by appealing to ordinary Americans.
Meanwhile, a very large number of ordinary Americans see the Liberal craziness (the “Karen” problem, or the “woke college student” problem) and the ordinary people say “I hate those people. I hate the Left.”
This divide helps us. But if the blue-haired crazy Liberals fade away, the communist Leftists are likely to get stronger.
Now the Left is ditching the term “liberal”, they can say the quiet part out loud now.

As you suggest, leftists are true communists, basically losers that don't want to work but want significant government benefits. Liberals, think teachers. They are well above average wealth but have been indoctrinated by the union propaganda - they think and say they hate capitalism and want a fairer society, but individually do not want to pay more in taxes because it hurts their nice lifestyle. They think they are smart, but are driven by emotions rather than facts and data - which is why they would vote for AOC over a JD Vance or Rubio in a heartbeat and think AOC was qualified to lead the world.

All Communist countries had “Anti-Parasite” Laws, where people found not working could be arrested, or forced to take a job.
There was no “welfare” in Communist countries.
The American Leftists will take on menial tasks (state jobs) in exchange for benefits already on the table, which are significant.
One answer is summer internships for high school juniors to spend in 3rd world $hitholes under the auspicies of the Peace Corps. They just migt come back more appreciative of this country. Start with young blacks.

Once the Revolution is complete, and they are no longer needed, they will be first against the wall.
Unfavorability stats can be misleading when it comes to predicting an election because the reasons for the unfavorability can vary widely between voters. Sometimes, Voters from a president’s own party will give higher unfavorability ratings because not enough is getting done. Voters who support the opposition party may give unfavorable ratings of their own members because they are not being sufficiently oppositional. But in an actual election, those kind of voters will both support their respective sides.
