“NPR Voice” seems to have been promoted 20 years ago, but NPR seems to be pushing just the opposite these days — the more non-standard your accent, the better. See, for example:

... and so on. Diversity in accent appears to be heavily valued on NPR these days, the “midwest accent” being unvalued.
