Mohammad Baghdadi Khan responded to criticism online by writing, "Who said councillors can’t drive cars like this?"

A newly elected Green councillor in Bolton has posted video footage of himself driving a Lamborghini shortly after winning a seat in last week’s local elections. Mohammad Baghdadi Khan, also known as Baggy Khan, shared the video online following his victory in the Halliwell ward of Bolton, Greater Manchester, reports the Daily Mail.

The footage shows Khan behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, a model that can cost up to £270,000. The clip also includes scenes from his election win. Reports indicate the Lamborghini footage appears to have been recorded at a 2023 wedding, where several supercars were used to transport guests.

Khan also posted footage of himself driving what appears to be his regular vehicle, a Mercedes with personalized license plates, which was also seen during his campaign.

During his campaign, Khan said that if elected, he would be “standing up for the people, the community, fighting for what’s right.” Campaign materials shared online also included pledges to support “greener spaces” and back higher taxes on “billionaires not workers.”

The party has proposed reducing speed limits on motorways and dual carriageways by 15 mph, expanding 20 mph zones in urban areas, and gradually increasing taxes related to driving. Its official transport policy states: “On major roads outside of built-up areas, the maximum speed limit allowed would be 55mph, to maximise the efficiency of fuel use as well as improving safety.” The policy also says the party would pursue travel “demand management” measures aimed at reducing the “speeds and volume of motorised traffic.”

Another section states: “Road fuel tax is an important factor in encouraging users to be more mileage conscious and to opt for smaller, more fuel efficient cars. The Green Party would increase road fuel tax incrementally.” Khan responded to criticism online by writing: “Who said councillors can’t drive cars like this?”

"Who said councillors can’t drive cars like this?"

Uh, your own party, Mohammad. Did you ever see its platform? Confiscatory taxes on income of the "wealthy" to create wealth redistribution and a universal income and equitable intergenerational wealth transfers. Asset-based wealth taxes. And, of course, demonization of the lifestyles of the "rich" including those who drive cars like you are driving. But hey, YOLO!

“It was possible, no doubt, to imagine a society in which wealth, in the sense of personal possessions and luxuries, should be evenly distributed, while power remained in the hands of a small privileged caste. But in practice such a society could not long remain stable. For if leisure and security were enjoyed by all alike, the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied by poverty would become literate and would learn to think for themselves; and when once they had done this, they would sooner or later realise that the privileged minority had no function, and they would sweep it away. In the long run, a hierarchical society was only possible on a basis of poverty and ignorance.”
