NYC’s traffic cameras are now writing fiction.
The famous “Knight Rider” car KITT has been hit with a speeding ticket in Brooklyn — despite sitting on display inside an Illinois automotive museum for years.
The Volo Museum, based north of Chicago, said it received a $50 ticket from the New York City Department of Finance tied to its replica of the famous TV car from the 1980s series starring David Hasselhoff.
“Well, this is a new one … we got this in the mail today. This is 100% legit,” the museum wrote in a Facebook post on May 7.
According to the citation, a traffic camera recorded the car speeding through a Brooklyn school zone on Ocean Parkway on April 22 at 1:02 p.m., clocking it at 36 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The museum said the vehicle — a black 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am replica — has not left the display in its building and has been parked there for years.
“A traffic camera captured Knight Rider’s KITT speeding down the streets of New York City. The camera captured the novelty license plate (not a real plate…and also a California plate).”
“Their official system ties the novelty plate to Volo Museum and we got a bill for $50!!” the post continued.
“You can’t make this up! Our KITT hasn’t moved from our museum in years! Does anyone have (David) Hasselhoffs number? He owes us $50!!!!”
The museum also shared a photo of the ticket issued by the New York City Department of Finance.
Museum officials believe the city’s system may have mistakenly linked a novelty “Knight” license plate to the museum’s display vehicle.
The car at the museum is not one of the original screen-used vehicles from “Knight Rider,” which aired from 1982 to 1986.

Mamdani is raising money any way he can.
Kit can just hack into the system and polarize the negative ions or some tv sh$). Get that ticket paid
There’s one of those running around here, in Florida Panhandle..................
Who cares if the car doesn’t even have the right license plate as long as it brings in revenue for NYC. The lefties need to finance socialism any way they can.
I got income tax demand from NYC.
I’ve literally been to NYC to see Hamilton, the US Open, and a couple of other similar times.
Probably cost me $2k to get it sorted.
They’re criminals.
I once received a demand to pay a fine for a ticket I didn’t know anything about. When I asked to see a copy of the ticket, it very clearly had “VOID” written across the face.
Couldn’t they have filed a criminal complaint with the FBI and USPS accusing NYC of mail fraud?
Many stories of people receiving bogus tickets from traffic cameras that you can see aren’t even the vehicle listed in the citation. One I saw last year was ticketed to a Lexus SUV but the image of the vehicle in the photo was a landscaper’s vehicle and trailer filled with palm tree cuttings lol.
Is it sitting in the museum at the time the ticket was taken?
I’ve see what can happen on Ferris Bueller’s day off.
I always though the biggest missed opportunity for Pontiac was not making a Knight Rider “KITT version” with the zig zagging red light in the front. I wonder whose idea it was for that light? Brilliant IMO.
A few years ago I got an email from my employer that I had received a ticket for passing a stopped school bus in my company car.
The photo showed a white work van with a decal for a similarly named company. Our company doesn’t own a white van.
I told them it wasn’t me and to have fun figuring out what to do about it.
Apparently the almighty state looked at the decal and not the license plate when sending out the summons.
It wasn’t me, either.
Glenn Larson’s nickname in Hollywood was “Glenn Larceny”. He allegedly stole scripts from other shows. James Garner accused Larson of copying from “The Rockford Files” and punched Larson on the Universal Lot. Garner claimed he struck Larson so hard that it knocked him over a curb and into a motor home. Garner’s company complained to the Writer’s Guild and Larson was fined.
When the goal is revenue and not safety.
I’d keep it. The novelty is worth more than $50.
The framed ticket will make a nice display with the car.
‘So fast it got a speeding ticket sitting still!!!”
Joey Logano, try K.I.T.T this weekend. You might win the race.
We recently received a toll for I-66 in Virginia for my daughters car, which was in Mississippi at the time. Looking at the ticket, it was clear that their automated system misread one of the digits.
