International health officials are trying to track down dozens of passengers who left a cruise ship where a hantavirus outbreak killed three people and sickened several others.

They disembarked after the first death, and some have reportedly returned to California.

What started as an expedition cruise to Antarctica has now sparked global concerns, as there have been three deaths and five confirmed cases of the hantavirus linked to the MV Hondius ship.

Health officials said passengers scattered across the globe before anyone realized the full scope of what was happening on board, and some of those passengers came back home to California, where officials said they’re being monitored by doctors.

The outbreak is believed to have been started before the ship even left port.

Officials from Argentina said a Dutch couple contracted hantavirus during a bird watching trip while visiting a garbage dump in a remote city at the southern tip of Argentina.

“They disembarked after the first death”

Can hardly blame them.

Just like how they didn’t ban visitors from Wuhan to the US when covid was spreading.

I think this whole thing is overblown. Cruise ships are notorious germ factories, by virtue of some of the types of passengers they attract, as well as some of the employees onboard. Once off of that environment, I think it's going to fizzle out.

Was thinking the same. Hoping we’re wrong. That the whole thing reportedly started on a birdwatching trip to a local dump in South America (????) somehow seems perfect.

I think they disembarked while the doctors still thought it could only be caught from rodents and not people.

Hollywood likes re-makes because there’s no original thought there anymore. So they need to do a re-make of Cassandra Crossing but set it on a cruise ship and send it into a hurricane. Maybe even combine it with a remake of the Poseidon Adventure.
