ATV and dirt bike riders took over the Bay Bridge early Sunday evening, according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Mark Andrews. The incident caused a traffic jam and lane closures on the bridge.
As of Monday afternoon, a total of nine people have been arrested by the Oakland Police Department.
Approximately 50 to 60 suspects were riding either an ATV or a dirt bike, Andrews said. They first made their way into San Francisco from Oakland. Once they arrived in San Francisco, Andrews said they spent around 45 minutes to an hour there.
The number of ATV and dirt bike riders was upgraded to 70, according to OPD, the agency that made the arrests.
The riders then made their way back onto the eastbound lanes of the bridge, according to CHP. As they were heading towards Oakland, all eastbound traffic was stopped. The group ditched their bikes.

I suspected it was a largely black thing before I watched the video.
A few years back, I got caught in the middle of a smaller event of this type on one of the highways going through New York City.
People doing wheelies, passing you on all sides at high speeds, darting in and out of cars. The one I saw had the same make up and tactics, and the demographic was the same.
It was pretty stressful. Dangerous stuff, even (or especially) if you are simply trying to navigate it as a non-participant. We did see an altercation.
Good to see them do something about it.
Due to this becoming a popular thing with blacks a number of people I know, usually redneck pickup truck owners, is to carry spike strips or spike balls in their toolbox. If we see one of these events those spike go out into the middle of them.

Why do they do it? Because they can. There is seldom any real consequences for such behavior. It is the broken window effect. Police and prosecutors ignore minor crimes, and so the rules of behavior change. In California thief and vandalism is not punished. Bad behavior in public is not punished. This is just an extension of that. This is not the first time this has occurred, and it will not be the last. Until the community understands breaking the law has consequences, then nothing will change.
