The sidekick woman on Hannity said the Bicentennial in 1976 had lots of merchandise tie-ins and people buying flags and having parades. By now there would have been constant positive references to it.
Now half the country thinks we have an oppressive capitalist country on stolen land and we need a Communist takeover.
Not a good look.
They don’t deserve this great country that so many shed blood to save.

Local PBS station has been re-running Ken Burns series on the Revolution, half of which is denigrating the Patriots for their treatment of the Indians and for having slavery.
In 1976 millions of WWII veterans were still alive, along with many more millions with memories of WWII. That may have created a more patriotic atmosphere than we have now.
Good points. The history classes in schools are either non-existent or tinged with the “stolen land” and “mystical and one with the Earth Native Americans” bias. Not true at all when I went to school in the 1950s. (Note: There are suppressed memoirs such as one of the white girl abducted by “Native Americans” into slavery. She had to do backbreaking work for them such as lugging 20 pound iron pots and washing the tribe’s dishes. She lost one shoe and had to WALK alongside the wagons while the “Native Americans” rode, for hundreds of miles, limping with one shoe on the harsh ground. Another story included torture of a man for being white. He had his head burned, his feat burned, his eyes poked out and a rod rammed down his throat.))
Once I came upon a little booklet of flag laws and rules which showed respect for the American flag, how to fold it, having a light on it if you don’t take it inside at sundown and all that-—a booklet I must have had in the 6th grade I think.
And I remember reading most of the Landmark series of young adult books on the Founders, Commodore Perry and the rest.
And the Classics Illustrated comics had a lot of pro-American books condensed.
Not today’s fare.
