Michael Jackson's Doctor Conrad Murray Was Imprisoned for Killing the Singer. Now, He's Opened a Practice Abroad

Conrad Murray served two years in prison for his role in Michael Jackson's 2009 death

In 2011, Dr. Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for his role in the death of pop icon Michael Jackson.

A decade later, he opened up a medical institute in his native country, Trinidad and Tobago, the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian reported.

"I have lost a great deal," Murray said at the time. "I've lost everything. Everything I've amassed has been taken from me as a result of an unjust verdict. I am and I remain an innocent man."

In May 2023, he opened the DCM Medical Institute in El Socorro, San Juan in Trinidad and Tobago. He told the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian that it was established after his colleagues made him feel like he "was too much of a threat to be present."

"All I was willing to do was to collaborate, further educate and instill care for more and more," Murray claimed. "So they decided to eventfully lock the doors when they saw the cases I was performing."

He continued, "It was tough. I dealt with the country locking its borders for two years but I did not give up. I felt that I had to be relentless."

The Trinidad and Tobago Guardian reported that in 2018, he took legal action against the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago (MBTT) for refusing to accept his annual registration fees, which would allow him to practice medicine in the country.

Before opening DCM Medical Institute, Murray practiced private medicine at a nursing home in Chaguanas. His licenses appear to still be suspended in the U.S.

This inspired me to look up Elvis' doctor. His name was George Nichopoulos, and he didn't lose his license until 1995, long after Presley died. He must feel resentful, when he saw how many painkillers doctors prescribed in the current century.

The guy is a hack for sure, but MJ demanding to be put to sleep every night with propofol was an accident waiting to happen.

Yep; he was Jackson’s own “Dr. Nick”. When a 50-year-old man set about training for a world tour with the same rigor he did when he was 25 - while underweight and abusing medications - the gaskets gave way. A responsible physician wouldn’t have indulged Michael’s every whim.

On the plus side I heard that the Neverland Ranch clearance sale went well. All boys pants were half off.

If you watch the documentary “This Is It,” you get a sense of how everyone around MJ was dependent on his talent and genius and would do anything for the entertainer they worshiped. I doubt the doctor harbored any malice toward Jackson in treating him, since he was his meal ticket and benefactor. It would have been impossible for his acolytes to deny him anything, like a cult leader.

The documentary shows how much intensity and passion MJ put into his art. He was a perfectionist with an enormous weight of responsibility on his shoulders. The pressure must have been unbearable as he was about to begin a 50-show tour that was already sold out. His advanced age and concern about his ability to endure this grueling production took a physical toll, as evident in the rehearsal footage. His overmedication was an accident by a doctor who couldn’t say no given the circumstances.

And from what I read, almost everyone who really knew him, knew that he was NOT going to be able to do all 50 of those shows. No way. He was unhealthy and they all knew it.

Jackson, himself, knew it but went along with the facade because of the money. It is doubtful he would have done even 20 of them before he would have quit due to health reasons.
