Iranian state media reports that Iranian forces have taken custody of two trade vessels in the Strait of Hormuz after opening fire on the ships Wednesday.
Reports say the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps have taken custody over the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca and Liberia-flagged Epaminondas and are bringing them to Iran.
International ship tracking from Marine Traffic shows both vessels stationary off the coast of Iran in the strait.
News of Iran's assault on the vessels first came from the United Kingdom Maritime Operations, which reported an IRGC gunboat had caused significant damage to the bridge of one of the container ships.

My guess is that the people that Trump has been negotiating with are not in control of the whole country or all of the IRGC. There probably is some splintering.

Everyday this drags on Iran loses money and the United States gets richer. The world is sending its oil fleets to the East Coast to buy American oil . Less money for the other Islamic states as well but they are all in because of how crazy Iran has been!

Merchant ships aren’t armed. Naval warships which are obviously armed, need permission to enter the harbors of foreign countries.
If you remember the Somali pirates when active they were using small boats and small arms to capture ships for ransom.
Iran still has small boats armed with machine guns, possibly larger caliber guns/cannons and maybe torpedoes.
Maybe they should arm themselves.
If the IRGC has seized these vessels, it may be a ploy to hold them hostage by rigging them with explosives, which they would detonate if we don’t play ball with them.
