From his first full season in 1973 through the ’81 campaign, Lopes played 1,139 games at second base for the Dodgers. In 833 of those contests, he was joined in L.A.’s infield by first baseman Steve Garvey, third baseman Ron Cey and shortstop Bill Russell.

I remember those halcyon days well, growing up in LA and when I was still a Dodger fan. Rest in peace, Davey, and thanks for the memories.

I grew up in CT ( born 1952 ) but was a Dodger fan from when I was a wee lad of 5 or 6 . Must have been influenced by my Ma who was from NY and was a Brooklyn Dodger fan going way back . Lopes played with L.A. until 1981 which was , coincidentally about the time I lost interest not only in the Dodgers but also pro sports .
