In an unprecedented move that has left parents and students scratching their heads, Maplewood Elementary School announced yesterday that starting next week, all students will be required to take a mandatory two-hour nap during school hours.
The new policy, dubbed "Dream Time," aims to improve focus and overall student well-being.
Principal Susan Bright explained, "After extensive research, we found that a short nap can boost creativity, memory, and happiness. Plus, who doesn’t love a good snooze?" The school is installing custom sleep pods in every classroom, complete with lavender scent diffusers and plush pillows.
Parents initially reacted with surprise and a little confusion. Mark Thompson, father of third-grader Lily, said, "I thought it was a joke at first. My daughter already struggles to wake up early; now she has to nap in the middle of the day?" Others expressed concern about productivity and the potential for classroom chaos. Students, however, are thrilled. Eleven-year-old Max Ramirez said, "Best day ever! I’ve been dreaming about this for years." Teachers are equally optimistic, with some joking that they might join in for a quick rest themselves.
City officials are watching closely. Mayor Linda Carter announced plans to implement "Dream Time" in all city schools if the pilot program proves successful. "It's a bold step towards revolutionizing education," she stated, “and if it helps students, why not?”
As April Fool's Day approaches, many are wondering whether the "Dream Time" initiative is real or just an elaborate prank. But given the school’s quirky reputation, it’s safe to say that for now, students can look forward to catching some Z’s—at least for today.

TWO HOURS?
As a 1st through 3rd grader (1960s) this was the norm.
As a matter of fact the parents were encouraged to send a small pillow to school with their kid to make it more comfortable.
Graham Crackers and milk, too?
Two hours is not "a short nap." The is about giving teachers less to do.
Congress has nap time while in session
This is good for underprivileged students who do not get enough sleep at home due to climate change and transphobia.
When I click the link for the article it takes me to the thing to post?

We don’t need to pay taxes for schools that take 2 hour nappy nap time.
Just close the current instiutions. This is really ridiculous.
QUICK! THEY NEED MORE MONEY FOR “EDUCATION” because the teachers are now baby sitters too!!!
I hate April 1st.
Are the cushions segregated so the same student will always use the same cushion? In today’s mongrelized culture, I’d worry about my child getting lice.

Yes. When I was a kid, SO many years ago, we took naps in our schools. (Not for TWO hours though.) We had small throw rugs to put on the desks for our heads. Everybody benefited by this.
That’s two hours less skull-filling mush! No Foolin’!
I think we are very close to have AI teacher In A Box which can converse with children and both ask and answer questions. An entertaining companion at home who can give each child a customized education in just a couple hours a day. The results will be far superior to what the government schools have been providing.
There won’t be any need to send any student to school.
Just take the entire system private already. Get government out of the education business.
Oh yeah, it is that. Problem is, every day in the US is April 1st now. LOL 🤡
That means school will be extended from 8am to 5 pm so now just another full-time daycare so they can have your kid all day for indoctrination.
“complete with lavender scent diffusers and plush pillows” No to mention these bacteria/virus, snot and human waste traps.
