If you've ever wandered through an airport struggling to find your gate, something to eat or a place to charge your phone, this could make things a lot easier.

At San José Mineta International Airport in California, travelers can now get help from a humanoid robot named José. It greets passengers, answers questions and helps people find their way around the terminal.

Communicates in more than 50 languages Provides directions and real-time terminal updates Answers questions in a natural, conversational way Handles busy public spaces without constant human oversight. José stands about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs roughly 152 pounds and runs on a 700wh battery that lasts about two hours per charge. It also features more than 40 points of movement and can turn within about 2 feet, helping it navigate tight airport spaces.

Hopefully it is allowed to defend itself against irate passengers.

If you are too stupid to find your gate or a place to eat maybe you should stay home. The world is a jungle it helps to look up from your phone and pay attention.

Why is it black and wearing a sports jersey ?

I guess black men in sports jerseys and ball caps are the go to choice to ask directions ?

I predict long lines for Jose. People will use Jose rather than plan and think for themselves while navigating through the terminals. Kids will love Jose, but demand will soar and they will need an Jose at every gate. Eventually some frustrated passenger will take their aggression out on Jose.

Does Jose have an accent, you know, like the Frito Bandito?

Somebody is going to try to “break” Jose, by asking the same question over and over and over until the Robot gets stuck in Repeat Mode. A bunch of smart alec teenagers with no particular place to go.

I can understand that robots represent change and conservatives being conservative tend to resist change.

Being old and hating to vacuum the floor now that my wife cannot, I followed Freeper advice and purchased a robot to vacuum the carpets and mop the kitchen floor.

I of course had no clue about the thing, but I punched the button. The robot went right to work and began to vacuum my office carpeted floor. I was to put it mildly, simply flabbergasted. The robot vacuumed the whole space, carefully navigating between the five legs of the office chair, getting it all. When it determined to it’s satisfaction it was done, it went straight as an arrow to it’s home and disgorged the vacuumed contents into the home base bag and automatically began to recharge it’s batteries.

My point in this post, beyond my pride of possession such a valuable asset , is that we live in a new age. The robotic development as vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, automobiles, semi trucks, drone aircraft, factory servers to other robots, all of which can be connected to the AI mega servers in the sky is in fact already upon us.

Rather than fight it, I have decided to just relax and enjoy it.

Everyone loves AI robots at airports and malls until they blow a circuit and go haywire.

Nail on the head! It’s why it’s young liberals that invent most new stuff. (though when they get older some become conservatives - like Musk)

BTW, which vacuum robot do you have?

Yes...I agree...and most people, esp. older, have no idea what is coming. It would pay to be a bit more prepared.

I opted for the Roomba model 105. It is several models behind the times and is super cheap for the unsold ones still left on the shelf.

I don’t know what it will not do that the current 700 generation will do, but it seems to our purpose exactly.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.

Does it do linoleum and tiles as well? Do you have to specify a perimeter?

Oh, and BTW, are you on first buddy friends with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia?

Are you accepted into the home of the emir of the UAE? Are you on first name basis with Bibi Netanyahu?
