Charlie Kirk murder: Docs claim Bullet used doesn't match alleged rifle
tmz ^ | March 30 | By TMZ Staff

There's a new twist in the case surrounding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk ... new legal documents claim the bullet used to commit the crime does not match the rifle tied to suspect Tyler Robinson, TMZ has learned.

According to the legal docs obtained by TMZ, Robinson's defense team argues there’s a discrepancy between the ballistic evidence and the weapon prosecutors say is connected to Robinson ... who's facing multiple charges -- including aggravated murder and felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury -- in Charlie's slaying.

What a misleading headline from The Daily Mail.

The ATF ran a tool mark analysis on a bullet jacket fragment recovered from Charlie’s autopsy.

The result was “inconclusive” — not “no match.”

The jacket was too fragmented to compare, which also partially explains the lack of an exit wound.

The bullet shattered on impact.

“Inconclusive” means insufficient evidence to draw any conclusion.

It doesn’t mean the bullet “did NOT match” the rifle like the headline says.

The defense wants to use “inconclusive” as exculpatory evidence — but the prosecution wants to run chemical or molecular analysis comparing the jacket alloy to ammunition recovered with the gun.

Unlike tool mark analysis, it doesn’t require an intact bullet.

The defense is trying to block that testing from happening.

That’s the nuance of the real story.

Didn’t that already get mentioned shortly after the killing?

sounds like BS to me. The first thing they would do would be ballistics tests...

OK So “inconclusive” is the key word here.

One - the FBI hasn’t turned that information over to the defense yet.
Two - what does “not match” mean? Different caliber bullet? That doesn’t match the initial reports. Doesn’t match the barrel riflings? Those tests were designed around newer rifles. Older rifles might nit work as well with these tests as machining wasn’t refiners
Third - it’s a fact the gun was there and the assassin was there and the assassin was on the roof with the rifle.

There’s only one reason to try this in the press. To pollute the jury.

The jacket was too fragmented to compare, which also partially explains the lack of an exit wound.

Rather unusual for a bullet to fragment on impact unless it is designed to do that.

But this idividual chose to engrave his ammunition which compromised the structural integrity of the bullet jacketing.

Lots of bullets are designed to do that. Aside from such, it is common for high powered rifle bullets to be so mangled by the impact to make it impossible to get an exact match from what is engraved on the bullet by the rifling in the barrel.

Yes, this is my take too...the wording is SPIN. There are many on the left that would LOVE to get this guy off the hook, they were HAPPY Charlie was murdered.

There’s a difference between “not being able to confirm” vs. “this is not a bullet from this gun”.

Sounds like there’s some reasonable doubt.

I’m also hearing there’s like seven sets of prints on the gun.

Good thing the shooter gave a written confession when he turned himself in.

Oh wait...
