"Shattered" partner of American Airlines flight attendant missing in Colombia: "I want to believe that he's alive"

A search is underway for an American Airlines flight attendant whose disappearance while on a layover in Medellín, Colombia, has left his loved ones desperate for answers.

Eric Fernado Gutierrez Molina, 32, a U.S. citizen and North Texas resident, went missing Saturday evening after a night out with a fellow flight attendant, according to Ernesto Carranza, Gutierrez Molina's longtime partner, and Sharom Gil, his best friend.

The two flight attendants visited a bar in Medellin's El Poblado neighborhood popular with international tourists, according to family and friends as well as Colombian officials.

Carranza told CBS News he has been "shattered" by Gutierrez Molina's disappearance.

"I want to believe that he's alive, and I want to continue believing that he's alive, but throughout each day you wake up not knowing anything, and it makes the days go by longer and slower," Carranza said.

"I'm missing a part of me. ... He's the most joyful person to ever to be around," Gil said. "We're so lost right now."

Fags don’t make very good decisions. I would not count on it being alive.

What do you say when it happens to a straight, average citizen - as these stories usually do?

He “went missing” after a night out? There’s a lot of possibilities in that statement. Did he make it back to his hotel after all the festivities and then went missing or did he went missing while they were out which makes the whole first statement false. Did he went missing during the outing? That seems like the most probable scenario.

The three people went to a bar, two homosexuals and a girl who likes to hang out with homosexuals. It is well known that homosexuals are among the most promiscuous people sexually. I would suspect that the one who “went missing” was trying to engage in some activity then got robbed and killed because he could identify the robber. It’s also possible that he was killed for being a homosexual, while trying to get some action going.

I’ve got a client’s wedding to attend in Medellin next month. Its reputation is pretty clean lately.

Eric Fernado Gutierrez Molina, 32, a U.S. citizen...

The media doesn't provide such clarity when crimmigrants are named. I hope he is found alive.

“”” Ernesto Carranza, Gutierrez Molina’s longtime partner,”””

Hanging out in gay night clubs in Medellin is probably not a wise decision.

It has since been reported that a body was found.

From the article: ""It was his female coworker, they both went out," Gil said. "We don't want to disclose anything that happened to her, but she was also a victim of whatever Fernando is going through right now. She was disoriented, but she was able to make it back to the layover hotel."

It seems as if they were targeted and were roofied.

Most citizens pay attention to government warnings about places to visit. American has some “no go” zones, I don’t go there. we know about them from local knowledge.
Examples

” Gun Violence (General): Japan, among others, has warned its citizens to be aware of the prevalence of firearms in the U.S. and potential incidents, notes Condé Nast Traveler.
US-Mexico Border: Canada advises against non-essential travel to border areas at night, citing drug trafficking and organized crime incidents, according to CNN.
Specific Incidents/Rights: Some nations have highlighted potential issues with medical care costs, civil unrest, or specific risks to travelers with certain gender markers or international backgrounds, as noted by NewsNation and Reddit.
Legal Compliance: The UK has specifically warned its citizens to strictly comply with US entry regulations to avoid detention, notes Fodors Travel Guide. “

This article is two days old. More facts have been discovered since then.

There is a thriving gay community in the area that this article says they went. The two flight attendants were male and female. They went to a popular bar and were approached by two men and struck up a conversation. At some point, they changed locations -- possibly suggesting to go see what a Columbian gay bar is like. I'm not suggesting a promiscuity play here, just a gay tourist curious about a gay bar in a popular foreign city.

This is a common playbook in Medellin and has the hallmarks of, in this case, a gay honeypot scheme. First, they were targeted because they were flight attendants on a layover. Criminals know that flight attendants stay at very specific hotels and don't have any local connections; if one went missing it wouldn't be discovered until the person failed to show up for their flight.

Second, they probably roofied them at the first bar, giving the woman a lower dose than the man. As they were walking to the second bar, the drugs began to take effect; the woman was impaired but functional and likely just abandoned, while the man was taken to the second location where the crime occurred (likely robbery because flight attendants are known to carry cash for overnight meals and entertainment).

Third, the woman awakens hours later with no memory of what had happened, and takes awhile before she realizes that her coworker is missing. If both were taken in the night, and both went missing, that would have been noticed more quickly and a high alert would have gone out. One missing flight attendant would take much longer to be discovered.

The body was found, just not yet publicly identified.

This happens way too often. Yes, this couple is gay. But it happens to straight Americans too. They think the Columbian or Mexican "tourist areas" are just like US bars and end up kidnapped or dead. These stories make headlines but Americans still go and take the risk thinking it won't happen to them.

BTW, the fact that the missing man is gay does not mean he deserves this. He took a stupid risk but a lot of straight Americans take the same stupid risk and end up dead or kidnapped. I pray for his return just like I would if he was straight.
