OH CANADA: Canada just met its NATO 2% defense obligation for the first time since the 1980s. Carney celebrated. He did not mention that Canada's GDP shrank in Q4 2025 and that is the only reason they hit the target. Canada did not build up its military. It contracted its economy.

Just came across a YouTube site with a Canadian guy telling the truth about Carney and the Liberal party. He says they are not telling the truth about this spending and Canada agreed upon this in 2014.
In this case it doesn’t. They’re not spending any more. Its just that their economic performance has been SO bad that their economy shrunk enough to make their spending amount to 2%.
Canada’s economic performance in the last 10-15 years has been abysmal.

Looking at the map of their vast important and difficult to defend territory and waters that need defending, they ignore having a military and their people don’t enlist anyway.
Canada is one of those countries where I feel sorry for the tiny number of real men who live there and serve, if the numbers haven’t changed since the last time I did a deep dive into it, Texas produces more enlistees than the nation of Canada.

What has happened is fraudulent accounting procedures...
They did a 20% across the board military pay increase, which may help with future recruitment and retention
The reclassified Coast Guard as military.
In Canada’s case, Coast Guard is not military, not law enforcement, not armed...
So they reclassified unarmed bureaucrats as “military” and met the 2%.
The last NATO country to do it.

Jeez!! Even Germany got to the 2% faster than Canada, and it took Germany almost 100 years to finish paying their WWI reparations.
NATO members have now agreed to 5%. I wonder how long it will take them to get there? Spain, who recently told the U.S. they wouldn't let us use their air bases, rejected the increase to 5%. They said they're only going to fund 2.1% of their GDP for their own defence.

And that gets them what? Another platoon of infantry and a jeep?

That’s one of the first things I thought of - since our own military was doing that under Obama / Biden. Does that sort of thing count toward the “2%”?
