Senate Democrats are fighting tooth and nail against the SAVE Act, arguing that requiring Americans to prove their identity with a photo ID when they go to the polls to vote — even when the ID itself is given away for free — prevents eligible voters from casting ballots.
They contend proving citizenship would make voting harder for millions who lack ready access to birth certificates or passports, supposedly disenfranchising black and Hispanic Americans.
Yet democracies all over the globe, both in the wealthy West and in the developing world, enforce similar rules.
Every country in Africa, for example, requires government-issued identification to vote, and 51 out of 54 African nations demand that would-be voters actively submit proof of citizenship to register.
Mexico and all 12 South American countries mandate government-issued photo IDs to vote, and verify the citizenship of each registered voter.
Mexico’s rules, similar to those proposed in the SAVE Act, require voters to prove their citizenship with an original birth certificate issued by a civil registry, a naturalization certificate or a Mexican passport.
Our southern neighbor even requires a thumb stain when casting a ballot, to prevent double voting.
All 47 European countries require government-issued photo identification at the polls.
Virtually all of them check voters’ citizenship against national databases, though France requires them to submit documentation, too — and the United Kingdom, Cyprus and Ireland reserve the right to demand documents when citizenship is in doubt.

Yes, people don’t have proof of citizenship at hand — that is because there has been no requirements for those papers in law. The Real ID laws were the first time the law required them, but getting Real ID was optional. Now, the SAVE Act would make the possession of such papers a requirement. So what do the Democrats do? Wring their hands. Instead, what Democrats should do is create a NGO to assist those citizens in obtaining those documents so they can register to vote, as well as get their driver’s licenses or identity cards updated to Real ID requirements.
In other words, be part of the solution.
The people who are against voter ID are only protecting their ability to cheat and all the arguments are emotional because they can’t reason their objections.
Their voters support vote fraud.
It’s just a form of TDS.
When my kids were little, they had to have their birth certificates to enroll in school, and to play on the soccer team. Why is this so darned difficult?
I have every single one of my important documents on hand, easily accessible. I kept all of them in folders for each one of us.
I’m not a very organized person, but all of these documents are neatly arranged and in order.

And yet, they travel in our country every single day. You need a REAL ID or a passport to travel in the US, and a passport if you travel abroad.
If you don’t have these documents easily accessible, then you shouldn’t be expecting that you can vote…in any country.
My cousin is so filled with TDS that she daily posts on social media about how the Republicans want to disenfranchise women, Trump and Republicans are pedophiles and the Bible commands us to welcome immigrants, even the illegal ones. When I called her out on her nonsense, she told me to look it up and see for myself how Republicans want to take away women’s right to vote.
Yeah, I’ve heard this from some in my circle. Funny thing about taking away a woman’s right to vote. I see that posted here on FR by a number of men. I’ll bet they are often the ones telling us how a woman is guilty or not guilty based on her looks.

Everyone who is not for the save act is actually in favor of fraudulent illegal voting although they can’t admit it. It certainly doesn’t take a Sherlock Holmes to figure that out.
