Per Montana SOS official filings (deadline March 4, 2026) for US Senate:

Republicans: Kurt Alme (Daines filed early but withdrew yesterday, endorsing Alme), Lee Calhoun, Charles WalkingChild.

Democrats: Alani Bankhead, Michael Black Wolf, Michael Hummert, Reilly Neill, Christopher Kehoe.

Libertarians: Kyle Austin, Tom Jandron.

Independent: Seth Bodnar (pending petition).

Alme has Trump/Daines/Gianforte endorsements. Check http://sosmt.gov for updates.

Why he waited is easy to figure out.

It sounds like he knew he had no chance against Trump-endorsed Alme.

Possibly several deals being made behind the scenes. Some with photos.

Trump seemed to have his endorsement for Alme ready to go. Sounds like it’s possible Daines and Trump discussed this in advance.

Democrats did it first!!

“Rep. Chuy Garcia’s ploy to hand-pick successor sparks Democratic infighting”

Rep Garcia filed paperwork to run for re-election in 2026, then announced he was retiring after the filing deadline.

Meanwhile, his chief of staff, Patty Garcia, had filed her own paperwork to run for the seat just hours before that same Nov. 3 deadline, ensuring that she would be the only Democrat on the ballot running for that deep-blue Chicago-area seat. The two are not related.

....[Alderman Ray] Lopez said he would have considered running for the post had Garcia given notice. “It’s very disappointing to see Chuy’s career as a progressive end in such a typical machine fashion with him choosing to disenfranchise the voters of the 4th District so that they only have one Democratic choice to replace him.

#3: "Sounds like good riddance!"

Yes indeed. He's another greasy grifter in a fancy suit, a real Larry Craig toe-tapper.

It sounds like he knew he had no chance against Trump-endorsed Alme.

Alme didn't even file until he knew Daines wasn't running and President Trump endorsed Alme after Daines' announcement.

I think Soros and his DemnonRATS are paying these jackasses to “do a lot of thinking” and then say they are retiring to spend more time with the family.

And “Former US Senator” is a lucrative post-poliiics resume enhancer - if they are in it for the cash (as most are) there is no need to hang around long enough to qualify for enshrinement in the McConnell/Pelosi Memorial Taxidermy Hall. :)
