The Minneapolis businesses that exploit illegal migrants should be compensated by ordinary Americans for economic losses amid the federal enforcement of popular immigration and civil rights laws, according to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
“They left us with economic ruin,” Walz complained after White House advisor Tom Homan said on Thursday that he is withdrawing most ICE officers after arresting more than 4,000 illegal migrants in Minneapolis.

“Many Minnesota businesses – especially small businesses — are facing economic hardships that may prove insurmountable” because of the federal enforcement, said Matt Varilek, an economic development manager for Walz.

If I were to guess: they knew potential ivocation of the Insurrection Act was imminent, and perhaps more. Probably something Trump didn't want, if you follow Trump's sentiments re: Russia/Ukraine war. (I'm thinking Spanish Civil War here).
That would make sense to me for the "de-escalation", and the reports of Minneapolis PD attemtpting to co-operate.
But now that the imminent threat has passed, Walz and Frey are back puffing out their chests, imho.

If those businesses hadn’t hired the illegals in the first place like they weren’t supposed to do, they wouldn’t need compensation. They should now be able to survive off of what they saved all that time.
Those companies used Walz to dip into the wallets of American taxpayers to sustain their illegal hirelings, by which to pay lower wages and to out-compete honest companies working outside Minnesota.
Now this thug wants us to compensate them? Poor babies.
