The lead singer and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, Brad Arnold, has died after a battle with cancer, the rock band announced on X. He was 47.

"He will be deeply missed and forever remembered," the band said in a statement on Saturday.

The band is best known for 2000s rock hits like Kryptonite, Here Without You, When I'm Gone, and Loser.

In May 2025, Arnold announced that he was ill, and had received a diagnosis of stage 4 clear cell renal carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer, which had metastasised into his lung.

I still remember all the hate they got for *DARING* to play at the 2016 inauguration.

It's too bad, as they were a pretty good band, in their day.

Saw them in concert a couple times. Always patriotic, never anti-USA. A couple of their songs were about military service and sacrifice, and they ended their shows with a tribute to veterans and first responders. They took heat for recording a song for the National Guard to use in a recruiting campaign, but never backed down from supporting the US armed forces.

RIP Brad.

Some decent music with some more insightful lyrics than most.

Lemme guess?

Never heard of him or the band?

I suppose it's a fair question, seeing how most FReepers are old enough to have voted for Roosevelt (both Teddy and Franklin) and probably have no idea who 3 Doors Down is.

Kinda funny how a bunch of bands with a number in their name all came out around the same time. 3 Doors Down, 3rd Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, 311.

LOL!

"What's with these kids today and their rock and roll devil music, their Pat Benatar and Air Supply! Three doors down is Stumpy O'Herlihy! He fought the Hun at Passchendaele! Ole' Stumpy and I used to watch Trackdown together. That Hoby Gilman could flip a six shooter! I ought to stop by and see how old Stumpy is doing... Now what was I talking about?

Well, I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body lying somewhere in the sands of time
But I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
I feel there's nothing I can do, yeah

I really don't mind what happens now and then
As long as you'll be my friend at the end

If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman? If I'm alive and well, will you be there a holding my hand?
I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite
