The Marshawn Truthers are wrong — Seahawks made right call on infamous Super Bowl 2015 play
New York Post ^ | Feb. 6, 2026 | Drew Loftis

It is Feb. 1, 2015, in Glendale, Ariz., and Jermaine Kearse has just made one of the great catches in Super Bowl history, bobbling a deep ball while falling down before finally securing the catch while lying on his back. It sparks an immediate callback and replay of the David Tyree Helmet Catch at the same stadium in the Super Bowl seven years prior.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Marshawn truthers. LOL. So, 99% of the football-watching population. Even Pete Carroll, the one person who thought it was a good idea at the time has admitted multiple times that it was a colossal blunder.

Oh, please. All they had to do was overload one side or the other with tight ends and a fullback blocking for Lynch and Beast Mode would still be running to this day.

Hightower stopped Lynch cold at the 1. Pats had a ton of beef on the line.

Running a quick slant is one way to beat a goal-line package. 90% of the time it's a quick TD.

If Lynch had gotten pushed back to the 5, everyone would have said they should have tossed a quick slant to the end zone.

Never-the-less, Carroll is a great college coach but a lousy pro - watched him destroy a young, talented Pats team in the late 90s. So no Pete Carroll fan here.

"And why should any one care."

People who follow football normally talk about these things.

If you don't follow football, why comment? Why not ignore the article and go back to sorting your sock drawer.

Paywall-couldn’t see-disappointed. I thought it was about he intercepted pass when Lynch should have run the ball in.

I couldn’t read it all either, but that goal line play where the Seahawks threw the interception vs giving the ball to Marshawn was the topic.

And even though I couldn’t read it, I believe the backstory of Marshawn that Super Bowl was his media day ‘ I’m just here so I don’t get fined’...

And I believe that last TD would have probably put him in the running for MVP for the game.

That would have been a little bit of a crap sandwich for NFL and Seahawks brass, while Marshawn might have had a big smile and some Skittles .

You are right. The NFL(and Carroll) wanted Russell Wilson to be the face of the NFL victory not an ugly. It was 2nd and goal with 40 seconds left. Time for 3 plays. Ball was on the ONE yard line. Lynch was the best player on the field and they should have hand him the ball 3 times. Made me laugh.

AMERICA would prefer Wilson make the play but this decision was the difference between winning and losing. It’s the Yogi and Boo Boo in all of us-not just me.

The NFL is scared of blacks and this is their passsive/aggressive way of dealing with it.

"Lynch was the best player on the field..."

Come on, it's not like Lynch was Jim Brown or Barry Sanders. Or even Curtis Martin.

In a results based business it SEEMS like a mistake. BUT Marshawn had bad stats in and 1 situations all season. So not relying on him was probably the right call. Except it didn’t work. That’s sports for you.

Yeah. The numbers weren’t good. Of course Carroll said he screwed up, because that’s what good coaches do. All loses are on them. Doesn’t actually mean they messed up. Just that they know not to blame the players.

Actually, there’s some context in that article that says the fault will always lie with the Coordinator and Coach..

Even less on Russell..

With Seahawks fans

The fault itself can be anywhere. But a good coach always takes the blame. It’s definitely not Russell’s fault, the guy jumped the route after the pass was thrown. Things happen.

It’s not Marshawn’s fault either.
