The nasty and expensive three-way contest between Cornyn and his two challengers — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt — is widely expected to go to a runoff election between the top two finishers, scheduled for late May. Cornyn, in his most difficult reelection fight since his first election to the Senate in 2002, could get shut out of the two-man brawl after the first round of voting in early March. A J.L. Partners survey released Thursday found 27% of likely GOP primary voters support Paxton with Hunt narrowly edging Cornyn (25.7% to 25.5%). Another 21.7% were undecided.

That Cornyn is hovering in the mid-20s points to the serious challenge the four-term incumbent is facing to just secure a spot in the May runoff despite dominating the field in the money race.

In head-to-head matchups, Hunt leads Cornyn by 11 points (44% to 33%) and is ahead of Paxton by a similar margin (44% to 34%), according to the J.L. Partners survey.
The poll also found that Paxton holds a narrow one-point lead over Cornyn (41% to 40%) in a hypothetical two-man race.

I hope Cornyn gets defeated but if he does, I have no doubt he will do everything in his power to help the Democrat to win.
Please let it be so.
The GOPe put Wesley Hunt is in the race to get Cornyn to the runoff for a 2 person race with Paxton. Paxton must get at least 50% to avoid a runoff.
I think Hunt is in it as a spoiler on behalf of Cornyn and the Bush family.
I will vote for Ken Paxton.

Of Hunt/Cornryn/Paxton, Paxton is the one most likely to lose. The recent special election in Ft Worth that Leigh Wambsganss loss by 14pts should be a wake up call here.

Texas is an open primary state. So do not be surprised if the Democrats and Independents vote to save their favorite Senator Cornyn.

No. That was a fluke.
Wambsganss was a very poor candidate. She’s another monkey branching female from Virginia and Colorado. Her website was nothing but an endless list of endorsements. A beauty contest contestant with a journalism degree who was winds up as a PR hack VP for a cell company. Divorces her firefighter husband and marries a city counselor on his way to mayor.
They ran her against a guy born in Texas to a blue collar family who lived there his whole life except when he was a mechanic in the USAF. Then he comes back and works at Lockheed and becomes the union leader (ton of built in votes from living there all his life and from his union).
Ran on affordability of housing, food, electricity, education etc.
She ran on girls sports and a bigger property tax exemption on houses.
She was a trite monkey branching female candidate campaigning on endorsements and connections, running against
a local blue collar appearing guy, with a ton of local supporters, who ran on things the middle class is worried about.
He will lose hard in November unless the GOP runs that airhead dingbat again.
That’s bullshit. The advantage of having Hunt in the race is that it insures Cronyn won’t be able to win in the primary.
The 27.1 % undecided are undecided between Paxton and Hunt. Say what you want, but Cornyn is toast.
Also keep in mind that neither Paxton nor Hunt are attacking each other. Both are very anti-Cornyn as are their supporters.
I don’t know much about Wesley Hunt...but black Republicans have a poor record of winning statewide elections. Tim Scott was initially appointed to his Senate seat so could run as an incumbent the first time he had to win an election.

They wanted Hunt in the race to prevent a two person race so they could get a two person race between the same exact two people who would have been in a two person race? That makes absolutely no sense - and you have to know that.
