An online fundraiser has been launched to prevent Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke from being thrown out of his Los Angeles home.
Recent news reports said Rourke’s landlord was trying to evict him for what the owner said was $60,000 in back rent on the $7,000-a-month residence.
On Sunday, a GoFundMe page for Rourke, 73, asked fans and supporters to help chip in to raise $100,000 to help the actor “cover immediate housing-related expenses.”
“Mickey Rourke is an icon—but his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also a deeply human one,” a message on the page says. “It is the story of someone who gave everything to his work, took real risks, and paid real costs. Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability.”
Organizers of the effort say they have Rourke’s permission to launch the fundraiser, which, as of Sunday evening, had amassed more than $37,000.
Rourke, a New York native, was a rising film star in the 1980s with credits that included “Diner,” “Rumble Fish” and “Angel Heart” before reported personal problems and a foray into boxing derailed his career. The actor regained traction in the early 2000s with acclaimed character roles in such films as “Sin City” and “Iron Man 2.”
Rourke was nominated for an Oscar for his lead performance in 2008’s “The Wrestler,” a gritty portrait of a former professional wrestler’s decline.
“The goal is simple: to give Mickey stability and peace of mind during an extremely stressful time—so he can stay in his home and have the space to get back on his feet,” the GoFundMe message said.
Morons.
Dude spent a lot of money ruining his face. He was once a good actor. Now he is uglier than hell.
I want a Go Fund Me because I need a new car pretty bad.
“his Los Angeles home”
I think I found the problem.
Real estate is stupid ridiculous expensive there.
In many other states he wouldn’t feel that pain.
Just maybe he should move into a cheaper place???
a single wide in Arkansas would be cheaper than L.A... sometimes you must make accommodations for the predicament you are in.... jeeeest sayin
The deeper story is how a Hollywood icon falls victim to LA elitist policies.
The whirlpool exists across multiple counties in CA.
newscum doesn’t stand a chance without 2020-level fraud.
Its unfortunate he is in a bad position. He has made and spent probably more money than most people can dream of. I find it really difficult to advise people to help him out. Not sure if it won’t happen again, whether he’s learned anything to prevent it happening again.
Life is denying me a boat. Can someone Go Fund Me?
I hear Oprah and The Rock have money floating around to buy properties, Mickey. Maybe you can work out something with them.
Meanwhile millions of American tech workers have been physically replaced by Indian citizens, here in the USA. They now are facing poverty.
I am so over the GFM scam.
Being completely comfortable in my heterosexuality I will say Rourke was at one time a handsome man.
He tried boxing for a time, between that abuse and whatever work he has had done on his face he unfortunately looks like a train wreck.
Very sad.
Wouldn’t it be easier for him to turn it into a Somalian daycare?
If that’s what people want to do with their money, what’s it to me? GFM would be a far better way to deal with homelessness than spending taxpayers’ money.
We’re getting a new refrigerator. He can have the box.
As someone who follows boxing I think that story is utter BS and it’s a sad attempt to blame failed, obsessive plastic surgery on.
single most important advice for living a more stress-free life.. “Always live beneath your means”
He is but another example of Hollywood actor trash, human debris, that lacks any real ability to make a living. He gets no support from me
