It’s December 7th here, Pearl Harbor is much more significant than John Lennon.

I bought some of their albums, but I don’t recall where I was when he got killed because I grew out of a need or desire for listening to them.

Apparently not.

Did a short survey.

Out of the five adults here that were alive at the time. Not one.

I remember where I was when Kennedy was shot. I remember where I was when Nixon resigned. I remember where I was when the Challenger blew up. I remember where I was when 9/11 happened. I remember where I was when Fukushima happened. I remember where I was when Trump was declared as winning in 2016. I actually remember where I was when I heard that Keith Emerson committed suicide—five years to the day after Fukushima, the same evening Trump’s Chicago rally was canceled, and I switched from Cruzer to Trumpster.

I don’t remember where I was when Lennon was shot. That must mean something.

After his weird song, ‘Imagine’, I lost all interest in him. RIP John.

The Beatles were still a thing with school kids even in the late 70s, as was Paul McCartney and Wings. His death hit Gen X a lot harder than Elvis’ three years prior.

December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

I was a Junior in High School when Lennon died. I saw it in the morning paper on the 9th. It was a deal, but not that big a deal. Blondie, Queen, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, AC DC, Pink Floyd, even the Doors, were a bigger deal in terms of what teens were actually listening to in my neck of the woods.

It would have been more appropriate if you just posted this on the 8th here. It was only a few hours away.

I was at PNOC in a castle in West Germany. I was making ther bd and bugginf the floor at 3-4AM when I heard the news over AFN Monday Night Football.

I thought My g-d, they are shooting the artists now. Our Sgt. E-7 Sgt. Rock (literally that was his name and had a collection of a jar of ears in his office window) Came out during formation and said “Good—they shot the Bastard...”

I thought that was a bit harsh—eh? I( wasn’t into John’s politics—just the music like ost people then...
