[I don’t necessarily view this discussion through the lens of a student of anthropology. And non human mammals don’t have a U.S. Constitution, or the ability to be moral creatures.]
I agree with you all that the dogs should have been put down long ago.
Its not the breed....because you also hear about packs of German Shepards and Dobermans, and dalmatians to this to their owners and other people too...all the time
:P
Sarcasm off.
No one has considered this situation from the responding officers view. Not knowing exactly what’s happening, screaming woman outside, sounds of dog pack snarling and chomping, seeing the whole grisly scene with that kid getting torn up with an old guy obviously done for.
Then one or more of those officers had to compartmentalize all that to aim and fire at the moving dogs as accurately as possible so as to miss the victims, knowing the pack may turn on them in the blink of an eye.
I hope they get proper recognition and find their money’s no good for a while at their favorite establishments.

These dogs didn't get the memo about fleeing when hearing gunshots.
Huh, how did I describe them?
Most of the pit owners ARE not poor people, the government makes sure of that. They are just stupid a**holes, abusing, torturing their dogs to the point even they don’t feel safe, but they’re still parading their “mean ass dogs” around to make sure everybody knows that they’re “armed.”
That is the main reason why you see endless pits’ in shelters. The idiot owners start to feel so unsafe around their own dogs, they kick ‘em out on the streets.
(Btw, my comment was to another poster and not specifically related to the article in the thread topic.)
I believe, I had a previous conversation with you about our beloved Rotties. Unfortunately they & Doberman will very often get put in the same category as pits.
I have been around dogs all my life. I have fostered, adopted, rescued and trained service dogs. Mostly basic training and also medical alert dog training.
So yes, I have plenty of knowledge about pits.
I live on a private driveway, in the middle of nowhere with only 3 houses. When the biggest house (11.000 square feet) was sold, a black couple, no kids but 2 pits moved in, all hell broke loose.
These people were not poor, just stupid idiots.
I’ll make a looong story short. These idiots completly neglected their dogs and just let them roam free.
One night while walking out of my garage, I was jumped on my right side. I didn’t see it coming at all. I was lucky that I was able to keep my balance. While I concentrated on my right side to see what the hell just happened, I was jumped on from the left side. Sure enough, it was the two pits.
Thank God there was a shovel in the garage. I beat the sh*t out of them.
The dog owner apologized and told me; “I will punish them for what they did” 🤷♀️😮
I told him; “No, you a**hole need to keep your dogs in a secure area and if ever see them on my property again, they will be killed”
After that, I didn’t leave the house without my Glock.
A week later they killed my neighbors 2 miniature goats. The neighbor shot and killed them.
2 month later the pit owners moved out.
My honest view on pits;
There are many, many good and gentle pits who are well behaved couch potatoes. I had plenty of them coming through my house while fostering.
Unfortunately the majority had been turned into vicious monsters, who should NEVER be put into shelters to be adopted. They need to be euthanized, like any other dog who can’t be trusted, including the “oh so cute” little foo-foo dogs. 🤨
Nobody, absolutely nobody should own a pit if they are completely clueless, have no experience or knowledge of dog training and I absolutely blame the owners for their dogs behavior.
The idiots who buy shock collars and/or spiked choker collars, also have no business to own a dog.
My wife and I went down to the Pound to see if we could maybe get a small lapdog to have around the house. Every dog they had there was a pitbull of one variety or another. 30 to 40 pitbulls and nothing more.
