NJ school staffers allegedly held ‘dress as your favorite pedophile’ parties: lawsuit

A group of New Jersey school staffers allegedly hosted and participated in disturbing “pedophile parties,” including a paraprofessional accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an underage student, according to a recently resurfaced lawsuit.

The Pinelands Regional School District paraprofessional and other staff members participated in more than one dress as your “favorite pedophile” party around August 2023, according to the suit filed in Ocean County by an ex-district employee obtained by The Post.

More details on what the parties entailed were not included in the court doc. Still, the revolting theme alone proved the male paraprofessional displayed an “egregious glorification of pedophiles,” Melissa Pomphrey, a former special education teacher at the district, said in her wrongful termination lawsuit.

Pomphrey accused the paraprofessional of being a pedophile himself and said he “would frequently invite this underage student to hang out with him after school,” according to the lawsuit, which was recirculated by multiple news outlets this week.

The staff member also endangered the female student, who was a junior at the school, by bringing her around an 18-year-old autistic male student in a special needs classroom who could be “sexually violent toward females,” the ex-teacher alleged.

Pomphrey said she reported the shocking get-togethers to the administration, as well as what she believed to be an illegal relationship between the female student and the paraprofessional, according to the suit.

After conducting a “sham” investigation, Pinelands Regional administrators reassigned Pomphrey to a middle school classroom from her high school class, which was widely considered a demotion, while the alleged creep staffer stayed employed, court documents said.

“Therefore, it was abundantly clear that Defendants [Pinelands’ administrators] assigned Plaintiff (Pomphrey) this classroom in pure retaliation for her complaints of the unlawful, unsafe, and neglectful environment fostered by Defendants,” the lawsuit claimed.

“Pinelands’ administrators”. I haven’t been through there in many years, but I remember back in the 70’s I went blueberry picking with a girlfriend. We were on a dirt fire road about 10 miles from Fort Dix. We were probably 2 or more miles off a main road into the forest. In the middle of nowhere was a ramshackle house with some kids playing with their dog. The dog started barking and that made the father come out onto the front porch with a shotgun. I told him we were just looking for blueberries. He said, “another mile down the trail, now beat it.” Some very strange people down in the Jersey Pinelands. And bodies dumped by the mob. Jersey’s version of inbred redneck hillbillies.

Whistleblower Pomphrey said she reported the shocking underage get-togethers, as well as what she believed to be an illegal relationship between the female student and the school’s paraprofessional.

Exterminate them all. Another self chosen lifestyle that needs eradication.

Jersey’s version of inbred redneck hillbillies.

The family of my best friend growing up here in Suburban North Jersey had a 2nd home a little south of the Toms River area.  My friend would refer to them as "Pinies".

People working in education should know they have legal duty to report. The supposed retaliation was ham-handed maneuver which draws more attention to their apparent criminal lack of concern for the children.

They all dressed as themselves if they’re being honest - for a change.

Yes, that was the Jersey term for them. A lot of them were good people, I’m sure, but there were those that were strange to say the least. Many were squatters and lived off the land and sold bootleg booze, pot, and whatever they could. Chickens, eggs, hogs, etc. also. Some worked in the blueberry fields and cranberry bogs as seasonal workers. I’m sure there were people down there who had no record of ever being born.

We lived in Little Egg Harbor Twp. from 1986 to 2004. This is the Tuckerton area. Pinelands Schools are in Little Egg, our kids went to the intermediate school, way back.

We are from the Jersey Shore, Monmouth County. When we moved to Little Egg in 1986 it was a bit of a culture shock but it wasn’t redneck city or loaded with inbred families or run down squatter filled shacks. True there was an incident where the mob dumped a body along the parkway (actually a road that runs along the parkway called “Poor Mans Parkway”. But it was overall a good place to live and people were great.

Some in this thread are talking about picking blueberries. That’s a bit of a hike from Little Egg. I think they are confusing it with Egg Harbor City, Burlington County. Another misconception is that it is urban. Between Stafford Forge, Bass River and Wharton Tract, I had about 250,000 acres to deer hunt. You can get lost out there easy. Little Egg/Tuckerton has grown up a lot since we left. Really has developed. Do I miss it? Not really because we replaced NJ with NE PA. Have a great day!

I would not consider Tuckerton or Little Egg “Piney” country or any coastal town along the Jersey Shore and I have lived in Jersey for all of my 75 years. Although the Pine Barrens are not far away. The area I was referring to is south of Fort Dix, now called the Brendan T. Byrne State Forrest. This was early 70’s and some strange people lived there.

Oh, and you have a great day also. We live in NW Jersey, an hours ride into the Poconos. We have friends who have a lake house at lake Wallenpaupack. Beautiful area.

The people I knew in Little Egg would consider anything south of Forked River to be South Jersey. The people there had no problem considering themselves Piney’s. Back in 1986 Tuckerton/Little Egg was the backwash of Ocean County now it is all grown up with grown up property taxes and a high general cost of living. And then there are the mosquitos and green heads...

We are near Lehighton, a bit south of Wallenpauck. Take care my Brother.
