Good Sci-fi is hard for me to find. I am picky about it. I could never get through the Dune books. Too cerebral for me I guess. ('the spice, the spice...').
But to some people, it was noted as great science fiction. The first movies they tried to make didn't do well and it seemed like it wouldn't translate to the screen well.
This last round of movies didn't put me to sleep like the earlier attempt did, so I am interested to finally see the conclusion. Then I might have the context and patience to go back and read the books.
LOTR on the other hand, I read long before the good movies came out. I already knew the story going into the theater. (there was a terrible animated version that came out in the early eighties. So disappointing.)

It is very common for the studio to want proof of writer bona fides with unreleased drafts. Then they turn the applicant down and just steal their stuff. They did this to me with my script of Star Wars. Don't believe me? Just listen to the dialogue. That's pure six year old's writing.

Apparently a horde of suggestible females who like to imagine going to Pandora. After the first one came out, therapists reported a rash of women pining away for a life with the blue people. They wanted so badly for it to be true. Go figure.

The last time I went to the theater was to see the Deadpool and Wolverine movie in 2024 with my youngest son who is in his 50's. The music and sound effects were so loud, but I couldn't understand half of what they were saying. I ended up watching it again when it aired on Disney+ with the captions on.

Replicas of that titanium wedding ring are still sold A young couple who were getting married ordered "Lord of the Rings" replica rings. I told the fellow to get the Head Wraith one for himself and the Sauron one for her.
